Last night I went to a dinner where former SECDEF/General Jim Mattis was the featured speaker.
A humble man of great accomplishment.
He took questions from the crowd, and I spoke with him a bit after the event.
He's 100% of the view that Russia is in the wrong, that Putin is in real trouble, that NATO is doing everything possible to contain the war in Ukraine, and the Secretary General of NATO is working tirelessly to keep it from becoming a regional or continental war.
It was a very interesting conversation.
No doubt he has access to more/better Intel even now than anyone here. But he’s also a political creature. I’m not a fan of his, but would consider myself fortunate if I got to have a conversation with him.

Didn't the Ukraine kill thousands of it's own people on the boarder with Russia and ignore the vote that was legally done that would have given them more autonomy?

Does the anti lynching law Bidet signed, that was just quincidently recently passed , prevent the Military from hanging those found guilty of treason?

Jim served in uniform for 42 years. Like his opinion or not, Jim is a good person.
He strongly believes in Allies as the way forward vs. US going it alone, or pulling back from the community of nations.
I don't especially like many of the European countries, but I'd rather fight over there than over here.
Correct. Isolationism isn't viable anymore. It also seems like this war has gotten some of the Euros off their asses and funding their militaries more like they should've been all along.
