For sale is a Remington 700 BDL Varmint Special with a 24" heavy barrel in cal. is .25-06. This was the only long action caliber offered in the Varmint Special and are not very common.
The first two years of this rifles use was in 4 position Match Rifle competition. It was retired at the end of the second season when I switched to Service Rifle competition. Inletted into the forend is a Freelands' accessory rail. The rear of the stock has a small cut-out for mounting a Lyman Micrometer Sight to the factory holes in the receiver. The muzzle end has holes drilled and tapped for mounting a dovetail base for the Redfield International Match front sight. The rifle has approximately 600 - 800 rds. down the tube and is in VG condition.
The rifle has sat in the back of the safe, unused for the last 32 years and I figure it is time to let it go. A few weeks ago I mounted a fairly new 4-12 X 40 Nikon Pro Staff, loaded up some ammo using a random starting load from my old Lyman manual, set it on the bags and fired a 12 shot group. I felt it shot good considering I'm not nearly as steady as in my younger days... Getting old is, well...
I will sell the complete set up as is for $1100. shipped. Don't need the scope? I'll sell the bare rifle for $900 shipped FFL to FFL. Payment in the form of a USPS money order, certified bank check from a real bank and not a Mom & Pop grocery or a mutually agreed upon alternative... No electronic payments.
Please PM with questions. I will be happy to provide specific pictures, please provide an email to send to. In the target picture I called the flyer at 1 o'clock. Hell, all the shots outside the little group were probably me... Oh, and that group was fired at 100 yds.
First " I'll take it " followed by a PM to me gets the goods. Thanks, ob
I bought one of these back in the 90’s when they were a special run for a distributor out of Texas and my in-laws had an FFL. It was crazy accurate and killed a stupid amount of coyotes and prairie dogs in Kansas. Good friend borrowed it and killed the biggest buck he had ever killed. Wouldn’t bring it back, kept raising his offer every week until I finally realized he wasn’t giving it back. Sold it for what I had in it with stipulation if it ever sells I get it back for what he paid.
I have one also. Mine is extremely accurate. I have killed bunches of coyotes and deer with it. Never use it for hunting anymore. It is to heavy for carrying all day. I use a sporter barrel for hunting. I have loaned mine to close friends, all love the accuracy. I will not sell mine. It was my first hi-power and will stay with me. We have a relationship that can only be broke by death. Good shooting

I prefer heavy barrels on my rifles. Jeep doesn’t seem to mind carrying them. Hasbeen.
