Local shop has a sako A7 on the rack w a $300 scope (resale value) on it. Just wondering what’s a fair to good price to pay for it if I wanted to use as a project to rebore. What is a “can’t turn it down” price for the rifle scope combo? Figured I’d sell the scope to offset costs. And if you had to choose between an Abolt II vs the sako A7, which would you rather choose for a rebore project?

What cal? Cartridge?

30-06 or 270.

I've got older A7's in .270 and 30-06 and they are easily the most accurate rifles I've ever owned. My good friend Bob here at fire has several 300wsm 's. They all out shoot any custom he's built with all bullet weights. Currently my 150gr TTSX in -06 and 130gr Interloks in .270 just put the hurt on deer and elk. I'm looking for a 300wsm. They are fantastic rifles. Got mine from a member here years ago for $600. Not gonna tell ya what I'd paid for a 300wsm. All older A7's not the TEcomate junk. Find an older A7 and thank me later!!! If it aint broke don't fix it. They are laser beam killing machines.

I recall at least one reborer didn't care to work on Sako barrels, the steel being not so nice to machine.

How do you identify the “TEcomate junk”

All A7's came with the same action for starters.There were barrel versions on some, some with a heavier contour. They made versions of the A7with a hybrid B&C stock . They called some Tecomate and used some other name for the others.

I would take an A7 over a Bolt II every day of the week , The Abolt II and Winchester XPR are the same action.


Like Mathman said some rebore people don't like Sako barrels, I would contact them before purchasing the rifle .

Ok, my bad, personally I don't prefer the club of a stock that comes on the Teacomate. I'd swap that out asap. The older ones can be had MUCH cheaper. I shouldn't have used the term "junk" cuz they are not junk. If I'm in a GS and there's a older A7 and a Teacomate next to each other there no way I'm doing anything but walking away with the older A7. You'd have to have the two next to each other to understand. The fluted barrel and the heavy club for a stock are not worth the extra money.

The A-bolt 3 and the XPR are the same action. The A-bolt II is different and better than the A-bolt 3. No comment on how a Sako A7 compares, never handled one.

Bought my oldest an A7 from here in the fire and I love it. Actually like it a bit more than the T3’s. Dang thing is extremely accurate with everything I’ve fed it, light and handles well enough I’ve been looking for a good deal on one myself. I’d value the bare rifle at 6-900 depending on which model A7 they came in a lot of different trims.
