I wonder if anyone receiving social security disability would automatically qualify for a handicap tag. That would explain how so many people with no apparent physical disability have them. Add to that those who take their parents' car out or kids that take mamaw or papaw's car to the store. Oddly, the place I've personally experienced the worst shortage of handicap spaces was the parking lot of the local huge orthopedic clinic.

As to parking outside the door ding zone, I'll never understand why so many people with things like dually pickups try to squeeze into a crowded area when there are plenty of empty spaces 50 yards away.

Cheyenne, THAT is the one thing that drives me nuts. My Dad had problems walking from the time he was 19, after the shrapnel he took when his tank got hit with a bazooka in Germany. I see young people getting out of cars parked in disabled spots all the time here. Majority? Fat black women. Sometimes I engage them. They usually react one of 2 ways. Either they get really down and dirty nasty, telling me it's none of my f'ing business, or they'll tell me it's "Mom's" placard. If they're nasty, I just dial them up. If they go with the Mom thing, I tell them you ain't Mom and I'm fixing to dial you up. The placard doesn't belong to the car. It belongs to the person.

Just because you're mentally handicapped don't make me wrong.

I had a temporary placard because of an ankle cast for 3 months. Went to the gym to try some upper body stuff. Just ahead of me a Hummer pulls into the handicap spot. No big deal, I park get out and crutch toward the gym. I am non-weight bearing so it's a little extra effort. When I start to approach I'm going to go right by the Hummer and this bodybuilder type gets out of the Hummer. There isn't a thing wrong with him. He's half my age. I look right at him from 5 feet standing sideways to and say "really dude"? He snaps his head around to see me standing on crutches. That was the limit of his shame. He just goes about his business. What a POS. It was the first time I ever gave any consideration to calling the cops.

I am sorry to hear of the opening poster's wife's medical troubles. May she heal fully and quickly. We all have seen count-
less individuals, exit their vehicles that they have parked in officially marked handicapped spots, and those persons exhibit
ZERO difficulty walking. I know a man whose 23 year old son is severely autistic. The stricken young man has normal walk-
ing ability. This father obtained handicapped license plates and uses the spots with or without his son being with him. Like
with EVERY topic that humans insert themselves into, we've corrupted "handicapped" parking. I read that at the training
locations for NAVY SEALS there are the government mandated "handicapped" spots that are NEVER parked in, because
no one with a "handicapped" tag EVER arrives at these locations.

When I had my Stroke I could have gotten one! I figured that would be good for me to walk. Let people who need it have!


I could use one right now with me with my hip replacement! But I’m getting around fine and the exercise will be good for me!

There are definitely abusers. I see them every day. I am on oxygen and have to use a cane to walk because of a bad knee.Surgery is out due to heart problems. It is hard enough getting around these big box stores, let alone walking 100 yards from parking . Quite often I find I cannot find a handicap spot. Many times I see disabled veterans using them with no apparent reason, but I am more than willing to give up my spot in return for their service to our country.

Yep. Most I see with handicap tags nowadays are big ole Stacy Abraham’s looking black cows.
