Ok, 99 guys educate me a bit as for I know hardly anything about these guns. Other half’s great aunt has a 99F in 308 her late husband owned. By serial number lookup it states it’s a 1962 gun. Rifle is scoped with an older weaver scope, bluing seems in pretty nice shape(there’s a bit of wear around the lever) and the wood is still in pretty nice shape. What’s a rough value of this rifle as I told her that I may interested in buying it because they’re fairly desirable guns and it’s a pretty cool older piece.

Without seeing the rifle, I would guess 7-8 hundred. It should be cut checkered, so it has that going for it.

Could be more could be less depending on condition, tang cracks, other alterations, condition of scope, etc.

Pictures would help

Yeah…I guess I’m lousy and I didn’t take any pictures of it really. I don’t remember any noticeable cracks and such. I’ll keep the gun if I purchase it but was looking for a rough price to play off of.

The gun interests me and I think I like the 308 chambering since it’s more of a regular caliber. I think I’ve been hanging around around this site too much and the looney disease is becoming contagious…as bad as I hate to admit it

Having just come from the Tulsa show and seeing the prices there, 7-8 would be have been the best bargain in the show. I didn't find any 99 under 1000 and many were not in great shape. But then, all prices there were high.

Lots and lots of 99s at Tulsa.. but few whose price interested me. The 1960 schnabel tipped 99E's were probably a good deal, but already have one.

I'm not so sure I would use Tulsa as a barometer of what 99's are actually selling for on a day-to-day basis.

You can put any price you want on a gun sitting on a table if you are willing to take it home with you.

I bought a 99E in 308 had the tang crack, water stains not to bad but there, had a Weaver K-4 post scope on it. 700.00 what I paid for it. I took it apart used epoxy on it bleached the wood to get the stains out. Then put 15 hand rubed coats of True oil on it then waxed it. Looks real good if I say so myself. Trimed the tang wood back so the crack will not come back. I have a real nice shooter now and that's what I want.

Thanks to all the helpful hint in this forum. First time every trying these things on a gun but it came out nice.

Thanks, guys.

That's true for some internet gun sale sites as well. Always has been.

The last 99F in 308 was a 1956. Good bluing, dark wood and excellent bore. I paid 700$, which 3 or 4 years ago, the opinion here was I probably paid a bit much. I kinda thought that was the case, but the rifle was in front of me and had a great bore so I bought it. It's my favorite deer gun now. That was then who knows now. I'd easily pay 700$ again for it.

Your pre mil rifle is generally thought of as more desirable and valuable than the post mil (1960) editions. Your gun could easily bring 900 today, possibly more depending on condition. So you are on the right side of that purchase IMO.

I went to a PA gun show a couple of years ago and saw a 99F in 250-3000. It was dirty, but looked good. I bought it for his price of $750. I cleaned it up, and it shoots very well. First year of manufacture, 1955, early in the year. A mate to my other 99 F, a 300 made later that year. I think I got a good deal at $750, but I wasn't sure then.

Prices are crazy now.
