I put in a contract, and it tripped overnight. That was for a thousand bushels, should I have done more?

If we can’t make money on $8.00 corn we’re in the wrong line of work Richard.
😁
I started contracting at $7.04.

I know nothing about contracts, like wabi is referring too.
Is Wabi saying that he has sold a 1000 bushels of corn for $8.00/bushel that he hasn't grown, yet? Is there a delivery time limit on this corn? How about delivery destination? Does he get payment up front or when delivered?

I'm green at this, I just told the local elevator where we have corn stored that I wanted to sell x number of bushels at a certain price. If, and when it hits that, it's sold.

I put in a contract, and it tripped overnight. That was for a thousand bushels, should I have done more? Well, Richard, how many bushel do you have left to sell? We are in the same boat regarding some old crop spring wheat. March of 2021 the wheat market made a little rally, went from roughly $5 to 7/bushel. My old man had a stash and was going to sell it all. I said given that it is drier than hell let's sell half and see what happens. The rest is history now with spring wheat at $11. And we still haven't sold the remaining half....lol

Curious .How much do you figure it will cost you to grow that corn again this year?

Funny thing is, as good as those great prices are for the producers, the consumers are lamenting the extra cost to their end use.
Interesting how it goes.
If this years input materials are as high as the press posts and planting conditions as poor as Ag Radio says they are, then the increased costs will have to to passed along, raising prices, but helping no one.

Curious .How much do you figure it will cost you to grow that corn again this year? I was lucky and had my fertilizer and seed paid for before the huge hikes over the winter so this year’s corn crop will have roughly the same input cost as past couple. I figure inputs will probably go up at least a couple hundred dollars an acre for the ‘23 crop due to the higher costs for fertilizer, seed, fuel, chemicals, property taxes, parts, etc…. Let’s go Brandon!
