Some decent elk hunting up that way. I would ask if they reside on the ranch or move in when the season starts. Also, early or late , which is best time.
Have good friends South of Sundance that have off and on great elk hunting.
Lots of whitetails up that way and too.
If they have some timber then the elk will stay around longer.

There's some around but I wouldn't call it a hotspot. How do you plan to get a tag for the area? Limited draw if I remember correctly.

I thought land owners had tags, am I wrong? Daniel There are no transferable landowner tags in Wyoming. And I hope it stays that way!

Non resident here.
Shouldn't it be easier to draw a tag in a zone that is mostly private and then hunt with the landowners permission? Sounds like the OP wants to do that?

Sakolur, Are you saying I can put in for a tag in a certain zone, then find a land owner that will allow me to hunt for a price? Does that apply for antelope, mule deer & Wt's?

You will be hard pressed to find a landowner that will grant access for elk hunting without a significant fee involved.
And it is too late for NR this year unless there are leftover licenses in the draw in July.
Access for hunting is hard to get anymore for any species in Wyoming, many ranches are leased now or they charge fees and have repeat hunters. Not like it. used to be. Decent public access in the Black Hills for deer hunting though.
Landowner licenses can not be transferred in Wyoming GWs really crack down on that.

I was thinking if you applied to a zone that is mostly private land then your chance of getting a tag is high. If you know an outfitter that hunts the private land then you are in business. Getting access to private land on your own would be tough no doubt, especially being a NR.
Listen to the residents, they know more about it. I am just speculating here
