I am gonna be spending the last part of the summer working with a 338 WSM getting it ready for fall yogi season-who out there in 24 hour land has any time in with one of these?

I could use your input.

Many thanks

I don't have one yet but all the parts are on order!!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> There's a fellow over on huntamerica who has built one.

I think it's going to be a wicked bear-elk-whatever rig <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I have tons of data of the WSM as well as the 338 Jamison. I built the first 338 WSM two years ago and posted load development at HA. The Jamison I've built two about 8 years ago. Case capacities of the two are quite close, the Jamison ranging from 79.8 to 82.2g of water and the WSM from 81.5 to 83.5g depending on manufacturers and case lots.

I'm presently building another WSM on a Montana Rifles SA.

In the WSM I've worked principally with 215g and 225g bullets with a few 185's and in the Jamisons principally with 200g bullets. The latter was built as a sheep gun. Be specific on what you want and I'll be happy to share my experiences and working loads with you.

Dober, Bobski is none other than Bob T @ HA... if you use the "Search" feature over there on the Handloading section you'll find the bulk of Bob's experience... which is probably more extensive than anyone in the country at this point! I've got a box of Hornady 225's and some H4350... that'd probably be a good place to start for us.

Bob... we haven't talked for a bit but I wanted to thank you for all the excellent cancer info... dad starts bracheatherapy( sp) the end of the month at a clinic in FL... I was hoping that'd be the treatment he'd come around to.

You're welcome, Brad. I hope the brachytherapy is as successful for your dad as it was for me.

Re the WSM, I still can't get any of mine to shoot H4350 with any 225 though I'm presently working on the Accubonds. Where it did turn out to be the powder of choice was with the Sierra 215's. In reviewing records recently I noted that I had NEVER shot a group larger than 1MOA with those bullets and with any powder combination, and the smallest were in the 4's with H4350. I've never used the 215's on game but that's what's going into that gun as I've given it to my hunting buddy in Cody, WY. N560 with either 225 Partitions or Hornady's.

Thank's Bob. Me too. He did a LOT of homework and consultation's from the Mayo Clinic to Mass General... he found this doc down in Florida with an even better setup and reputation than Sloan-Kettering.

Say, I don't recall, but did you ever give the 210 Partiton's a work-out? Theoretically I've always leaned toward the 225's in the 338 WM, but the 210's seem to work all out of proportion to their weight, etc. Recently I was told by a friend that Nosler consider's the .338" 210 Partition to be their finest Partition... the "flagship" of the entire line... accuracy and performance wise. I can't argue as it's the bullet I always found myself going back to and it's certainly worked for me.

I've NEVER worked with the 210's in any 338, that is until just now. I have a bunch loaded now with a variety of propellants, including H4350 that worked for the 215 Sierras', and will fire them tomorrow. Should get about 2850 fps or a bit more safely out of the WSM. I WILL do a great deal more once I have the new gun assembled, which looks like late July now unless there's more delays. It will be my elk gun this year. I've got another Commissioner's tag in Wyoming and right now we have one we're looking for in the Sunlight Basin area. Two years of sheds measure 377 for a 5 pointer!!!

Wow! is exactly what I said when I heard that. I'm looking for a book or near book bull. I only hunt one bigger than the last one and the last one was 351.

A Commissioner's tag in Wyoming enables you to hunt any game except sheep anywhere you want where there is a season. You select your area, get a license for a specific area and you must hunt in that area just like any other license holder for that area. I hunt nothing but late season and those hunts are very limited in license holders and are usually right after the migration late November and December.

Ah, yes, the Sunlight area! I love that area! Hunted it for many years when I lived in Powell worked in Cody and when Dead Indian was a gravel road.

Last time I hunted there I backed away from a griz that was poping his jaws at me. My 7mm Mag felt like a pop gun that day! I was up on Table Mountain on the east side near the rimrocks. Chased a huge bull east and down the Clarks Fork canyon till it got too rough to travel.

Be carefull and have a great hunt!

Never hunted east of Cody except for antelope.

Hunted Table the last 3 years. That's where the last big one came from, a 351. Too late for us to see Grizz though a couple of weeks while setting up camp there were a couple. My buddy got a 368 at Table also, with the WSM being discussed.

There are a few places with really big bulls on the east side-I have a shed from a good one, from that side-it went 368 or something like that.

A friend of mine took a 382 over there also.

Personally I feel that it'll be that side that is gonna turn out a 400 in the next couple of years.
