His plan before they asked him to be on the board under certain conditions (he declined) was to expose the algorithm. He wants to make it free and open speech, and likely not just for the US mainstream market but all over the world. He gets around and he's seen the power that Twitter can have - if left to be open for the free exchange of ideas that lead to democracy. He realizes that there is, currently, no free exchange of ideas on Twitter.

I'm guessing that Mr. Musk is not liquid enough to make this happen. I hope he is; but, I'm guessing he's not and that the deal will not go through. he actually submitted a funding plan to SEC

Since advertising represents a vast majority of Twitter's revenue, I'd think if enough Twitter users were to put pressure on advertisers to quit using Twitter it could eventually turn out to be a not too wise investment for Musk and investors. If enough advertisers were to leave it might even could lead to the demise of Twitter.

400 million user accounts, 500 million tweets per day, that comes down to something like 6,000 tweets per second. Advertisers aren't going to run away from that kind of traffic very quickly.
