BRNO ZG-47.. Sako Vixen Tikka T3 I own: 1 x ZG-47 in ´06 2 x Sako AI in 222 3 x Tikka T3 in 223, 308, 9,3x62 A first year Brno Mod 2 in 22lr. An Anschütz 1827B Biathlon rifle in 22lr. What I want is a complicated machined action, with everything integral. Integral recoil lug, mounts, one piece bolt.. Reason I like the Tikka so much, is because its just so stupid simple... and is in fact a sporterized version of the Sako TRG-22 sniper rifle action. And has a recoil lug integral (though "reverse"), integral mounts just by being octagonal instead of round. And has a bolt handle you can change yourself in 30 sec. What I think would be the perfect action for me, would be a Sako L61R body, old Win70 trigger, with Sako 75 bolt and Tikka T3 dovetails instead of Sakos dovetail. Three good books to read: https://archive.org/details/SOttesonTheBoltActionRifleVolI/mode/1up?q=sakohttps://archive.org/details/SOttesonTheBoltActionRifleVolII/page/n17/mode/2uphttps://archive.org/details/Bolt_Action_Rifles_3rd_Edition/page/n5/mode/2up?ref=ol&view=theater.

Thanks, GW. knew it was a super but not sure of era. That's what a rifle is supposed to look like.
I started hunting the Rex Kelly Ranch in 2002 IIRC. That picture would be circa 2005.-2006 There was an itinerant gunsmith and all around impetuous fellow of my acquaintence. He loved firearms. He would acquire or build them, play with them for a spell and then blow them out. I hung around him just to buy his cast-offs. It was from him I got my first Cooper in 22 Hornet and this Mauser 98 in 7 x 57 in a Mesquite stock he carved himself. I still have that one ya! GWB

I used to hunt a lease about an hour west of Kingsville, TX. It was all blackbrush and mesquite... something akin to the thorn forest from Sleeping Beauty. The last deer I shot there did about a 40 yard death run into the thickest of it. That was a few years ago, but after crawling through it on hand and knee and then dragging the deer back out again, my hunch is I've still got a few thorns in me and probably will forever.

Are you day drinking? Reading comprehension still counts. You said.the Bat action is the caddy of rifle actions. I jokingly said a caddy is nice on a nice.road but sometimes a truck is nicer. In my opinion the system 98 action is the truck. Get.it now? And I dont.think anyone needed.your.tough guy bona fides but whatever. Again. So your recommendation to the OP is a Bat action. Terrific. I may disagree or I may not because at.the time.the OP was not entirely clear with his question. Then you jumped in.to help derail the thread. Time.to refill your cup huh? Carry on. bluefish we disagree completely about rifle actions ,but in a way we agree yes a 98 Mauser action is like a beat up old Dodge truck it might get you there but its going to be rough nasty ride .

You mentioned Zastavas I have some Zastavas (a few imported by Interarms and some before Interarms imported them) all righ handed but they make great hunting guns, but I am a little biased as all I hunt with are Mausers. I usually install new barrels on them, not being able to get them in a caliber I want and having a lathe makes that easy, and I install 3 position safeties on them. Neither the barrel or safety is required for a hunting gun I install the safety as I like to lock the firing pin back instead of just the trigger. I figure we rely on safeties for many hours when hunting I might as well do that.
Just my two cents, wade

Now, that is funny. Here are some nice old Dodge trucks from the Dorleac lot: https://www.dorleac-dorleac.com/?lang=enLooking at these I'll say if the Bat action is a Cadillac then compared to these it's a Caddy parked in front of a mobile home trailer.

Since this is the "Hunting Rifle" forum, I'm assuming you're asking about the best hunting rifle action. In my opinion, the Mauser 98.

So thanks everyone. Amazing replies. I may go this route.
ARC Mausingfield or Bighorn Origin. Brand new. Proof prefit on either and a ag Composite or Mcmillian. TT or Bix and andy. Hawkins M5 in let that can accept dbm or bdl

...have you ever shot a Bat action rifle off the bench ? bet not With apologies to the campfire, I can't help myself... I have shot several BAT actions from the bench, prone and various field positions. I've even taken a fair number of whitetails with a BAT HR in 300 Weatherby. They're nice, very nice, but NOT the best hunting action IMHO. The extraction/ejection design will not reliably eject a large loaded round such as a 300 Weatherby. It's a debatable point, but I consider loaded round ejection capability a must have for a serious hunting action. In the Remington clone space, the Bighorn SR3/TL3 blade ejector design is much better at ejecting loaded rounds. Also, and like most other Remington clones the ejection port is on the small side. What's the best hunting action? I certainly can't say. My strong preference for serious field work is something along the lines of the Mauser M98, Winchester M70, Dakota M76, Echols LX-1, or a Bighorn. But that's just me. When I start hunting elk and mule deer off a bench rest, my opinion will likely change.

NO, I have never shot a Bat action. I am sure they are nice enough. I shoot Mausers, Winchesters, and Ruger guns.

T/C Icon action. 60 degree bolt lift, integrated scope bases machined on top of action, center fed magazines, always attached to a 5r barrel which doesn’t hurt.

I decided on a Mausingfield for my latest rifle. I pretty much checked all the boxes.

I had probably 25 Remington 700’s, never had one that was accurate. I like them a lot.
