You can dang sure color me impressed.... I recently purchased a Lefty T3x .308 Win off the classifieds here for my 12 year old daughters forever gun. I'm going to upgrade scopes but for now it wears a Sig Whiskey 3 3-9x40 in Talley's. I have tried exactly one load. When I purchased the rifle I ordered 3 boxes of 110 gr. Vmax Federal factory ammo offline as I needed brass anyway and the price for loaded ammo vs. brass wasn't that much more expensive. I think regular .308 Win recoil is a bit much for my daughter so I pulled these bullets with my collet puller, neck sized the brass with the decapping pin backed out and charged the cases with a book min load of IMR 4198 which is 32.7 grains. I reseated the bullets to the same factory OAL. I took it to the range for sight in. It has been hurricane/Wyoming windy here in North West Colorado so all of this shooting was at 50 yards, but I'm still very impressed with how well it does. After putting it on paper ( the shot to the right with tape over it) I shot the first 5 shot group with it, moved the scope up 2 minutes and shot another 5 shot group with it. Recoil is VERY mild. The next day I took my Daughter to the range. The gun fits her very well and the recoil doesn't bother her at all as the groups reflect. This was her first 3 shots through the rifle. I moved the scope over 1/2 minute and had her shoot two more shots. She ended up shooting one more 3 shot group after this. It wasn't quite as tight but all three shots were still in the bullseye sticker. She loves it and I love it. I love that she loves it. I'm glad its a lefty so I'm not tempted to steal it from her. But guess who is looking for the same gun in a righty .270 Win?...... Thanks for reading, Todd

Great thread. Good on you for teaching your daughter right and reducing those factory loads. Looks like your daughter is a great shooter and ready for the 100 yard range. Nice rifle too. You did well.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Fed Blue Boxes work great, for some reason they work well in a 308 or 06 in a Tikka

Very cool. My youngest boy turns 12 next year. I have been thinking about options for him as a birthday present. Something he can handle now but still use as an adult. A Tikka in 7-08 is on the short list. Your story may make that list get a lot shorter

I have been shooting T3's for a couple of decades now, I still have other rifles but the Tikka's get shot the most. I have never had any other manufacturers rifle that is so simple to make perform -
1 - adjust trigger if a lighter pull is desired (simple - 1 screw adjustment) 2 - install scope 3 - use any quality ammo or reload 4 - go shoot small groups
It sure makes a person wonder why other manufacturers can't turn out a product that performs the same.
Good shooting by both you and your daughter. The only problem I see is that you need to purchase another one in 223 so you can chase PD's and coyotes.

p.s. - if you want to see something interesting to to Youtube and watch Tikkas being make, it is about a 30 minute video and is really interesting just how precise they are built.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

Was having a medium crappy day.
Stuff like this gives me hope and makes me happy.
Good Dad, good kid, good gun, good job.

Glad I could nudge you along on that rifle Todd. Can't wait for the hero pics this fall from you and your daughter. I hope you both make it to OK this fall as well.

No surprise. All my Tikkas shoot like that. Buy the 7mm-08. I have two. My primary hunting rifle. I won’t post pics of the targets because you wouldn’t believe me. Elk, antelope, deer. One shot. 7mm-08, 140 AccuBond, my dad’s last and best bull. P

Swap the hockey puck recoil pad for a Limbsaver. It matters.
