Had a first on Saturday
I was removing[another] large dead Ash tree that was going to fall across the drive soon. 2 maples & 1 pine had to be removed[first].
So I had everything on the ground laying sideways parallel to my drive on the upside[roughly face level]. I was topping all 3 at or near face level into pieces that I could toss over to the lower side and down the bank. I guess those buds were kicking out some pollen.
The maples were budding as was the pine.
About 20 minutes after wrapping up my nose started pouring[snot], eyes started watering, ears popping and then my chest started tightening up. Within 10 minutes or so the warden [wife] started getting nervous as I was somewhat struggling with breathing.
Luckily that subsided[breathing difficulties] about a 1/2 hour and one benadryl later.
Guessing that it was one of the two species.
I still cannot hear anything in my left ear except for the train that is apparently going round & round.

Might have gotten a sting by something? That seems pretty severe for a pollen reaction, but, I'm not a doctor and all advice should be taken with that knowledge.

Man -up, there! I've been allergic to work for years, but I'm forced into doing it anyway. If you were experimentally minded, go back out and drop some more trees, one species at a time. It could also be a combination of pollens or saps I suppose. Good luck.

Huh???? Can't hear you. Actually I would, but the breathing part was close to a point of needing to do something drastic.

Fire ants get me like that sometimes. Carry a benadryl and chew it up.

Figured out a couple of years ago I’m allergic to hornets. Not “always carry an epi pen around” allergic, but definitely “keep Benadryl in the truck” allergic.
Made it to 50 without knowing that, so I’m guessing that’s a pretty charmed life.....

I'm allergic to penicillin and liberals.
Get a little stuffy with itchy eyes when the pine pollen kicks in though.........

Most late season bush-hogging gets my eyes and nose going, just never have had the breathing issue.

Get an allergy test. Our ENT did it for my wife after eating crawfish and crabs. Put her in the hospital. She has 2 epi pens now. She had a couple of mild reactions over the years. Just some hives. This one scared us. No mo shellfish.
Did find out she is allergic to most pollen perfume pet dander. Seems to get worse with age for some.

I cut up 3 power poles today that they replaced last week, no problems. I hit a few yellow flower somethings while mowing the other day and coughed for 5 minutes.

Deal with cutting and chipping ALOT of dead ash trees here and while the dust from chipping burns the eyes like hell and gets my sinuses flowing Ive never had a reaction like that. As others said maybe you were bitten or stung by something?

Tell your doctor.
These reactions tend to get worse...especially when they come on suddenly.
An EPI pen would not be an over reaction at this point.
You may not be able to swallow anything next time.

As others said maybe you were bitten or stung by something? Maybe it was the ash. For the most part I've been able to use the tractor to move them. I sawed 8-9 logs for firewood and tossed the rest over. Have 5-6 more good sized dead to deal with. Those maple buds right in my face had me leaning that way. Wish I could hear.

GoJo hand cleaner. Was a printer. Always had ink on me. Bought out and moved to another plant in KC in 96. They had GoJo there. Hands and arms swelled up and broke out. Had to bring my own.

Pollen can be a killer. Last spring we were up at the lease picking blackberries. At that time a lot of wild oregano was growing and there was pollen everywhere. I got the bright idea of riding down soft brush with the ATV for better access to the berries. Wasn’t long before I had a yellow cloud going and my asthma started showing. Pulled over into some shade to cool and let the pollen get gone but I was too late. I started coughing HARD. And the harder i coughed the more I coughed. My airways started to close and it was difficult to breathe. Fortunately I had brought my albuterol inhaler and got it out ASAP.
Even with a half dozen puffs of albuterol on board I could hardly breath. Upper airways just wouldn’t open completely. Did a couple more and got the coughing under control and slowly realized I might not die. But honestly for a while there I wasn’t sure. If it affected in an in-ordinary way like you described you might want to have some tests to find out why. It’s no fun having an asthma attack in the woods.
A saying the AARC used a while back was “When you can’t breath, nothing else matters”. No truer words.
“When Tyranny becomes Law, Rebellion becomes Duty”
Colossians 3:17 (New King James Version) "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
