A friend was in Vietnam, he said the cooks had one cooked, but he had to go on patrol, and missed out.

I ate a rattler in Florida back in the late 80s. We skinned it and deboned it. Cut up the fillets into bite size pieces then breaded it in seasoned flour. Probably everglades seasoning as we dumped that crap on everything back then. Fried it up and got chewing. Tasted like chicken nuggets to me.

When folks ask me to describe eating rattlesnake the best analogy I can give is that it’s like a 3 foot long chicken back.

I'm not familiar with snakes, nor have I eaten one. But if I felt it was being done safely, I would try the meal.
On poisonous ones, like rattle snakes, is there a certain area to be cleaned and get out the poison? Maybe it is not harmful if ingested, I have no clue?
Not into Googling at this hour.

You can be "bitten" by a long dead snake.
That's about it specific to venom.
I've eaten rattled. Its fine. Not great, not bad.

I've eaten rattled. Its fine. Not great, not bad. I understand about being "bitten" by dead, cold blooded creatures. Years ago, I had cleaned a couple snapping turtles. 30 minutes or so later, heard my German Shepard start "ky ya yeeing" One of those turtle heads snapped on to his nose. Learned after that to take a fence post digger and drop heads down there, out of the dog's reach.

I had rattlesnake at a restaurant in AZ and it was ok. Had snake in China and thought it pretty much sucked.

I've been told it crystallize, and can be an issue for a long time. If you cut the head off and preserved it, it would contain venom that could hurt you. Getting dried venom into you wouldn't be likely, but it would be possible.

The head wasn't a problem on the one I ate. I blew it clean off about 8 inches back with my 12 gauge. I my buddy was 6’3 at the time and he had to hold it up slightly over his head to get it off the ground.
