I think I have located a good gun. This one has what appears to be a Lyman peep sight setup connected to the left wall of the receiver. One of these guns has long been a fantasy project for me. What I would really like to do is get a nice bit of wood and have the factory stock duplicated, swap out the lever for a medium sized one, and rust blue the metal. Current price Is $650. I know without pics it's tough to ask about value but the gun is in excellent shape and I think may be from the 60s. Thoughts?

That price is reasonable. You could likely sell the factory wood.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Turns out it is a waffle top, all original, in minty condition.

Nice! Don't think I could futz with a minty original waffle top, I'd have to look for a specimen that needed freshening up.

I'd grab it up and use it . Price is good. I bought a minty 35 Sc from 1955 a decade ago and have been hunting with it last 3 seasons. I ain't a collector though.

Not to pee pee on the parade but
Check the trigger before you buy!
I use Jim Brock man as a marlin smith, he has encouraged me to avoid these as he has a hard time with that era of triggers.
But I really like the waffle tops they often are Ballard rifled and are more “beefey” imo

I've had at least 20 Marlin 336's from the 60's and all had good triggers.
I been hunting with my 1960 336 SC ,32 spl. for at least 50 years.
Cheers!

I have two from the 50's and the triggers work super great.

I've got a 1955 Texan in 35 Remington that has an excellent trigger, works slick and shoots great. It's got some honest battle scars and will no doubt get some more- I ain't a collector either. Great score Bluefish!
