Just for clarification, where does this rifle stand?

If I'm reading the post correct the bolt shroud isn't original, the stock is not the original stock, and the screw heads are not period correct?

I'm interested in this rifle, just trying to get clarification on all the confusion.

Well, that's a good question! Truth is noone seems to know for sure. I bought it as is, so I don't know its history. So far, it seems as if:

The numbers match on the bolt and receiver.

Manufactured in May of 1994(?) If I'm reading it right.

The rifle should not have had a JLock indicating that someone had added the JLock firing pin assembly.

Rifle's bolt, raceway, and ramp shows little use.

The Allen head actions screws aren't original.

Its a 243!

I'm gonna call Remington this week and see if they can tell me anything.

I wonder if it went back to Remington for work and they “updated” it while they had it during the time j locks were being put on rifles. I’ve had them do wonky and unwanted things to a rifle or two of mine… 🤷🏼‍♂️

Me too. As much as I hate using it, she's going to GB this evening.

Just a suggestion, when you list it on GB, put a lot of the information garnered from this thread into the description or you'll be inundated with the same questions.

For $1100. No way. This is a shooter grade Frankenstein that should be priced in the $550-$700 range at most.

For all the seller knows, hell the barrel could be shot out. I guarantee you he hasn't bore scoped it and he's not going to.

He's simply trying to capitalize on the fact that authentic 700VS bring good money, and they do, on ones that are correct.

Really? $550-$700? Bare actions with no bottom metal/trigger are selling for ~$600. Getting a functional stock, BDL bottom metal, real bluing, functional trigger, scope mounts, for $700 would be a bargain even with a shot out barrel. Let me know if you have any such Rem 700's you'd like to sell for $550-$700.

So you would honestly pay $1100 for this?

No one ask what the prefix serial letters were that would give you a close date of the gun also.
