I have a liberty gun safe with a manual combination lock. Can it be replaced with an electric one?

As the last line in "Men in Tights" said, "Call the locksmith!"

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

I believe I would call the safe dealer. They are usually offered with either one. Cost of material plus installation.

Pour yourself a good big drink of your favorite whisky, then after consuming lie down until the urge to fug your safe up goes away.

I have heard of a couple of electronic safes with key pads that have buggered up. Major hassle to get them open.

Yes…it’s not hard. I actually buy S&G manual locks off eBay from folks doing what you want to do.
Before you switch, google “cracking electronic safes”. They can be pretty vulnerable.

Spoke to a gun safe dealer two weeks ago about electronic vs manual spin lock, he said he get at least 6 to 8 calls a week of people not able to open their electronic lock, he said they usually last 6 years and need to be replaced, sometimes its only the battery and other times the pad needs replacing because some of the numbers stop functioning. I had manual dial for 25 years without any problems whatsoever. Just my 2 cents.

I had a manual lock on mine. It went south; none of them last forever. I had it removed by a locksmith and replaced with an electronic lock.
Hopefully I get a long run with this lock.

Thanks for all of the responses. I think I will stay with the manual one.

I was having a little trouble with my Liberty manual lock.I took the door off the safe, went to the locksmith and he reset the combination right there in the back of my truck. He said it was off a little and he also said he could change the combination to even numbers if I wanted it changed.I asked him how much I owed him and he said nothing.Good business to deal with.

There's another option, it's a combination electronic keypad with a dial backup. They have great reviews, but unfortunately are difficult to find right now with the supply chain shortages.
Securam Xtreme

I did find a place that has them in-stock and just ordered one to replace my keypad on my Browning safe.

I have read several times on my state hunting forum some guy in a panic the day before deer season because his electronic safe lock won't open. Glad I have a mechanical dial lock.

FYI, with a mechanical lock DO NOT give it a quick spin to set the lock when you are closing your safe. The mechanism can move enough to create a new combination. A friend is a locksmith and told me it's not a matter of IF an electronic lock will fail, it's a matter of WHEN.

We used to same style keyless manual S&G locks in the Navy. In the safe 2 times a day (at least), never had a manual combo failure. Not saying they don't happen, just not during my time.

Both of my electronic safes have a key backup.

Every few years I remember there are keys, then it’s a panic trying to remember where I safely “hid” them.

Most probably know this but a low battery can keep an electronic type lock from opening correctly
