My 8 year old daughter wants to sell some of her obsidian she picked up camping. It is just black obsidian picked up along the Idaho/Nevada border. There are about 20 rocks ranging from golf ball size up to just smaller than a baseball. I can text a pic of them if you're interested.
She's asking $20 for the lot plus shipping. They should all fit in a medium flat rate box.
My son sold a box here last year to someone that likes to knap their own arrow heads and they gave him an awesome spear head he loves.

I'll be taking the kids camping back down to the border in about a month. They plan to collect a bunch of obsidian next time and they are going to look for big pieces. I'll list some for them after they find it.

I've found some down there the size of a softball. We haven't really looked seriously yet so maybe we'll find some even bigger stuff next time. I'll bring some digging tools with.
This stuff came right off the top of a dirt 2 track road. My rancher friend jokingly said he'd almost pay the kids to get it out of his road because it's hell on tires. They just spent a few minutes picking some right off the roads surface.
I wasn't too excited about them bringing a box of rocks home but whatever they'll play with that isn't electronic is a good thing so I let them bring a bit home.

It comes from a friend of mines ranch down near the border. I'll talk to him and see if he knows where anymore is on his property.

Anyone know if obsidian can be knapped into flints for flinter rifles?

Plumdog obsidian is said to shatter and not be hard enough to creat spark for “flints”.
