Gents, Considering my previous query about the Kel-tec pistols , (which by the way, I appreciated the feedback), and now my curiostity about the High-Point pistols, one would be lead to believe that I am either real cheap or to practical for my own good, with that said; what does anyone have to say about the High-Point lineup of pistols from first hand experience. Notably their 'Flagship' .380 Comp. with laser sights and extended magazine . Looks like a real beauty for the price ...so you all don't think I am a 'card'...I do own and enjoy shooting and reloading my GP100 .357..My curiosity is piqued, with such a cheap number, I am half tempted to buy one and wring it out with a 'torture test'..any thoughts??

KM, what's gotten into you???
If I see you with a High Point I'm going to take it away from you and beat you with it....

Master Guns....Have you attended your Post-Deployment Transition Training?? I'm worried about ya', you seem to be full of rage yet ...what gives anyway, you are the one who talked em' up to me to start with!! Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if they proved to be more reliable in the sand than the 92's we complained about and cleaned 3X daily!!!

My philosophy is that it is better to buy a few good guns that a whole bunch that are just OK. Remember that you can only shoot 1 at a time and only carry a few with you while hunting. This generally rules out .380s.
If I want a low power gun for plinking I will get a .22 lr or 22 mag. The ammo is inexpensive and good for varmint and small game.
If I want a centerfire I would get at least a 38/357 and a 41mag/44mag is even better. These cartridges are much more capable that a .380. When I am out gound squirrel hunting with a .22 lr can use my pistol to take care of coyotes and other large varmints that I run into. A .380 is not powerful enough to fill this role.

Keystone and I have been nearly joined at the hip for the last 6 months. He's about the only one in the section that I can really have good intelligent "guntalk" with, since he is an avid hunter/shooter/reloader.
During this deployment we have "talked the talk" on everything from Dakota and Holland & Holland, to now, all the way down to the HighPoints, hitting I believe every stop in between. Handguns, shotguns, rifles, 17HMRs, blackpowder, you name it.
One recent morning, KM says to me after a long silence: " There's nothing left to discuss about guns, we've talked about everything we could think of several times over." Now, we discover this unturned stone, and here we are, wallowing at the bottom of the barrel
Just as well we will get home this Saturday.
Our next big decisions are going to be what to buy to "treat " ourselves to some new toys. It would seem the American thing to do

I had the chance to handle a Hi-Point 9MM rifle a few days ago and really wasnt impressed with it, but Im sure they'll sell alot of them because they're inexpensive. I also spotted one of these rifles in a grade b Vietnam movie. Hollywood rides again.

They seemed awefully heavy to me when I handled them. The guy behind the counter said their were blowback operated like the PPK, and so their slides had cobalt or something in them so they could take the pressure of the bigger rounds. Don't know if this is true or not. I've heard mixed reports about their reliability. They have a lifetime warrenty. I still wouldn't be caught with one personally--they are even uglier than the Glock.
Live free or die.

I can't tell you much about the pistols, but the carbine in 9mm kicks like a 410 single shot with mag loads, they don't stay on target well but we never had a jam out of the 250 rnds we fired. For my money I'd get the Marlin camp carbine.
