I'm still planning on it here. Been saving beef fat in vacuum sealed bags in the freezer. I think I'm up to about ten pounds or so.
Just have to stock up on some really lean beef.

I could wish a lot of things on my worst enemy but neuropathy ain't one of them.

I made some using commercial suet and IIRC venison jerky. Interesting stuff, can be added to soup (or just make soup from it) or mush or whatever. Supposedly lasts a long, long time, especially if you don’t add fruit.

Next up is hardtack, but Keto Man is off flour for the time being. That stuff lasts just about forever, like popcorn and liquor.

Vardis Fisher, author of Mountain Man, the book that was the basis for the movie Jeremiah Johnson, wrote another novel called Pemmican, about the Pemmican Wars, a battle between trading companies IIRC. Quite the struggle. I started that book decades ago, but can’t even recall if I finished it. I do remember the section where the squaws making the pemmican for the white traders would spit in it and add bugs because they didn’t like the white folks, kinda like fast food jockeys today😜

I'm currently reading Not By Bread Alone which deals a lot with pemmican including its use by the Eskimos, other Indian tribes, early explorers etc as well the Hudson Bay Company and North-West Trading Company pemmican war. Great read.
