I'm curious if there is a common time for grandchild weaning from birthday gifts? Would it be after high school graduation, college graduation, age 18, 24, or 30?
After they are married, maybe after military service?
My wife is saying never! But, I can't remember my grandparents sending anything after I was an adult. What are your family traditions?

I only had one living grand parent. That was my maternal grand mother and she was a poor person but she always scraped up 6 or 7 dollars for each of her 9 grand children. But I believe she cut that out when we got to be teenagers. I abandoned my parents and siblings and went to live with her for the 11th and 12th grade. She openly and in front of the others called me her favorite grand child.

We have 5 grand children and I can promise they will always get something as long as my lovely bride lives.

Depends on your relationship with them. As with everything else.

There come the B'day when shopping at Toys are Us and a check or gift card becomes more appropriate.

My mom still sends a birthday card with $10 to each of her four kids, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

My own grandchild fleeces me for considerably more than that most every time we meet grin Birthdays are sorta anticlimactic.

Kids and Grandkids - somewhere around 16 the gift doesn't get to be as large and likely moves more towards just cash. 20-40 bucks to do with as they please.

My son is 22 - I expect grandkids in the next 5 years so I reserve the right to change that but even still. With the boy - I tend to go a little overboard on gifts from time to time. He's 22, lives on his own has traveled some etc but for his birthday, a new Leupold. Christmas was a Bergara etc.

I'm 48, grandma is 98, I still get a card w/$5 on my B-Day, so do the other 20 grandkids and close to 2x that many great-grand children.

I love getting the card, not for the $5, but because grandma fills it inside and outside with some of her daily goings-on.
