The problem with sick leave is that on Mondays and Fridays everyone calls in sick. No call ins Tues-Thurs.

I don't think I've ever taken any day off for sickness. Ever.

Idaho,
I bet most would love to have your program!
I think I will get 160 vacation in a couple years,
And I'm at 72 sick hours. I think. That's max.

We can carry 40 over each year, max.

Not sure exactly. I love taking off as much as the next guy,
But as tight with time off as with $$.

Don't like to burn them for fear of needing them, two weeks easy covers
what I'm inclined to use. Really wish they would allow unlimited carry over.
Every year I'm burning vacation days to use them up.

Last year, it was scheduled and a customer suddenly ordered a bunch
of stuff before Christmas. Worked a couple of what needed to be vacation days (sick days really).

The HR c-nt,
being an HR c-nt,
ask the supervisor about it and told him
I would have to lose those days.
Being union, would have actually hurt
me in a way. Under contract, I was screwed.

The supervisor and GM, stopped that BS immediately.
It's nice when decency rules, darn shame it's so rare.

Last couple places I've worked combine sick leave and vacation into a single PTO bank. Previously I had separate sick leave and vacation accrual. My take is enough people abuse sick leave to the point it impacts productivity so employers combined it to discourage people calling in sick since using it reduces an employees bank of vacation hours.

The only real negative I see is people tend to come to work sick more than they used to so they don't burn their vacation time and then spread their crap around the work place. Since Covid I've noticed an improvement in that due to working from home becoming more common and accepted.

When I retired in 2015 with a significant time abroad I lost touch with US corporate (Royal Dutch Shell) policy. When I advised I would be, in fact, retiring at 30 years I was offered six weeks pay or six week leave as being a "great employee". I took the leave and left my Korean colleagues lost on my decision.
