Yes, had to have a 270 because of Jack. Not just any 270 mind you,a it had to be a custom job. A 6.5x55 and it's J.B.'s fault.

I have a 340wby because of Bob Hagel & Ross Seyfried.
For my 257"Bob", 6.5X55, and 9.3X62 I have to give Mr. Mule Deer himself credit!!

I bought a flock of .44 revolvers with 5" barrels after reading Skeeter Skelton for some years. When I started I couldn't care lass about handguns, then they started to grow on me.

I bought the Steyr Scout rifle after reading Jeff Cooper's writing on the subject and going to a couple of his courses at Gunsite.

Bought a Carl Gustavs M96 Swede milsurp in 6,5x55 for 35.00 after reading an older reloading manual from Hornady..or was it Lyman..:)? on the efficacy of the 6,5x55 Swede caliber and accuracy of the Swede rifles.
Since have about __________more ( in case the wife is reading) and they are all keepers..

Oregon45:
Is that metric full stocked rifle a CZ 550 FS?
I want one in 6,5x55..:) Jim
PS:
The older ( 20-40 year older) S&W N frame revolvers I own and have shot for years are the result of reading Keith and Jordan years ago..Never regretted getting any of them..
Never had any magazine subscriptions or bought any gun magazines..maybe I should start..:) Jim

Jim: Yep, it's a CZ550 FS in 9.3x62 Mauser, an older imported model, the sights are a Recknagel two leaf express rear and a fiberoptic front bead. I've since stripped the stock and refinished in tru-oil. In fine Euro style the sight is an Aimpoint Comp 9000L grin

Not a rifle but I just picked up a Sako AII in 308 Win today. Makes a nice pair w/ my 75 in 300WM but I'm sure it also had something to do JB's articles on the 308 Win.

Not yet! But I am wanting to get a donor action to build a .300 Savage mostly because of what our own JB had to say about it. Haven't found a Rem 7 yet.

Oregon45,
Very nice wood! They make some fine rifles regardless of price and I'm a sucker for the MS stockworks with nice wood..:)

Don't know anything about the caliber you have yours chambered in from my own experience but it's venerable metric and effective..I hear.

You take it out for Roosevelt elk on the coast yet..:)Think it will do the job nicely out to 250 yards and closer..with no hard tracking..:)

IF I get one in 6,5x55 , I'll shoot iron sights..I think that what the FS 550 was designed for.

Do you know any dealers within 300 miles of Portland who have any stock in the 550FS?

I REALLY prefer to see and handle a rifle before I buy-order it.Jim

The S&W 27 and 624 with 5" barrels were influenced by Skeeter.
The 257s and 7x57s were influenced by JO'C.
The 250-3000s were influenced by Larry Koller, particularly the Savage 1920s and 20/26s.
The Winchester 64s were influenced by John Wooter's stories about growing up in eastern TX and hunting with Palmer "Peg" Melton and his deadly 64.

JB has sold me some stuff via his ads in the 24HCF free classifieds which I have been very pleased to purchase and own, even if I don't hunt with any of the 3 rifles.

Not "because of," but I tend to use them as an excuse to "buy the license."

(There's nothing like quoting lines from a recent article when one's wife wants to know what you're spending money on.)

Let's see, "John, did you get a small check from Ruger for your part in the sale of that 45 Redhawk?"

"Yeah, and Olin ought to be sending you a small stipend for all the W296 I burn in your "published thought" does of 23 grains."

And that's just the TOTI.

Yes,
I bought a Wundhammer after reading Stewart Edward White & Ned Crossman.

I bought a Fred Adolph after reading Townsend Whelen.

I bought a Minar after reading Jack O'Connor.

I'm easily influenced.

Yes and no. A writer influenced about 20 years less experience for with with one cartridge I have grown to like very much. The cartridge is the .30/06 but I will not slander the writer. He deserves better than I gave him.

No, but I was influenced by Mr. Jack to buy a .270 Win. 35 years later. I was influenced by JB to buy a 257 Roberts, 25 years after I handled my first one.
Did I buy the 270 Win because of Jack? No, but he sure planted the seed.
Did I buy the 257 Roberts because of JB? No, but he sure fertilized and watered the seed.
