Here are 3 Bucks we killed last year. #1 This Buck was 9 1/2 yr old, he was smaller by about 10" from when we saw him last year. this is the Buck i shot with my 450 Howell. #2 This buck was over 10 yrs old and in poor condition. #3 This Buck 8 1/2 yr old is about 15-20" smaller than he was in 2020 Before some one say's pen raised Deer, I will tell you no, 2 of the 3 bucks we had game camera pic's from 2020, the big Buck, I watched him breed a doe thru my spotting scope in 2020, he stayed in the same area in 2021. his mistake. none of these Bucks were going to be better in the 21-22 season, and their breeding day's were about over. That's great the you have bucks that make it to that age! Around here, mostly National Forest land old ones are 3-4. Getting some better bucks with the point system, but alot are getting shot and left in the woods, cuz the a point or brow short of the 3 per side!
Deer Camp! about as good as it gets!

Awesome bucks Rio! Age trumps score for sure. So in your estimation do you think your bucks peak at 7.5 score wise? Do you age your deer by molar wear or incisor annuli by a lab?

We age our bucks by their molars wear, as for weight of these Deer, all were taken after the rut, so they lost about 25% of their body weight, #1 was the heavy weight at 180# #2 Was in poor condition and had some infected puncher wounds from fighting, I don't remember what he weighed, #3 weighed 176#, all of them would have weighed around 200# more or less before the rut.
South Texas Bucks, peak at 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 yrs old, the oldest I have ever killed we called him 12 years old, he scored about 125" and weighed 160#
We try to take Bucks based on age not score, unless they are a very poor quality buck, we take them when we see them. Rio7

Great bucks for certain. Count your blessings that you’re in an area with great genetics. Here in Alabama we just don’t get deer like that.

Bucks like that are very ever seldom grow to that age here. It's getting better as people are letting small bucks walk. Those are very impressive.
