There is a Jamacian scammer ring out of Florida working gun forums for want to buy items. They have stolen multiple IDs with pictures, drivers license, technical licenses and even LE ID and badges, CCWs etc, hacked emails and burner phones to answer phone calls. They are very attention to detail with numerous pictures of the item, details about the item, personal details etc. They are knowledgable and not dummies on the item with key details and specifics. Only thing I did not do was ask for current pic with something else in one of the photos. My fault there obviously. However, I found out they are photo shopping pics of a requrested item into the picture even then they send some people so they have computer skills.

I tried to buy a ruger mannlicher 7-08, got phone number, CCW, drivers license, State Fire Dept badge and ID, matching email address etc. Got me for $910. Tracked the real guy down thru white pages and he outlined a two year process to turn these guys in. FBI will not touch it he said, but at least 10-15 people been hit using his IDs and old email and FB pics.

They also ask for your ID so steady supply of new IDs for them to use. they are using Zelle and paypal.

Watch out for names of Jones Barton, Jeffery L. Kelly, John Janda, Joe Miles names for sure. These guys had their Ids stolen and are being used. However, according to real guy he has found out about 10-12 IDs with copius details they are using.

Any have an FBI agent that wants to bust a big time scammer ring, have them contact me.

I'm sure I'm due to get burned, but I still don't see how people keep getting taken on these "WTB" ads. These guys ALWAYS use random online pics for the item you are looking for, so if there is ever a question/doubt, make them email you a pic with their ID (or even username on a card, etc) in the same frame as the item you are looking for. If they won't do that, move along.

Maybe they are getting sophisticated, but I have yet to have one email me that wasn't clearly a scam from the first message...and the lack of additional "specific" pics when requested is always a dead give away. Seems to me people jump the gun, or get all excited because of price, and completely ignore proper due diligence.

Which forum?

They are photoshopping cards w info into pic of item.

Had it happen to me last year but if you looked you could tell it was a fake.

As soon as I asked for a specific pic of said pistol he went silent.

I had exact same thing happen with some pricks In Oklahoma called FBI they don’t give 2 craps! It’s sad! I finally called headquarters and told them there was going to be some dead scammers laying in the street bleeding from the ear! Sad days we are living in!!! Look at my kids each day and think what a uphill battle they have been dealt!!!

I saw someone (maybe here maybe another forum) ask for a pic with the date and his user name or something like that. Pretty specific. The scammer stole pics from a forum of GB or wherever and did a pretty dang good job photo shopping the requested info into the pic.

This stuff is nuts anymore.

I got a spam phone call yesterday with the caller ID showing Kingston, Jamaica. I don't usually answer unknown numbers but I had to see what this scam was going to be.
Me: Hello, hello, hello; robocalls are always slow to answer.
Him: Hello, Mr. John?
Me: Who's this?
Him: Publisher's Clearing House
Me: Click
Who knew PCH was from Jamaica?

When the Nigerian Princes figure out the Jamaicans are muscling in on their phone scams they gonna be pissed!

How about a facetime call with the person showing the item?

Would be pretty hard to fake that.

I simply will ask all you gentlemen for a phone conversation. I speak in details of personal life experiences and locale of where you live. I've had a couple of gentlemen prefer not to have a phone conversation at which at that point I prefer not to conduct business with you. If I ever have reasonable doubt on one's character then I'll initiate a little research on the seller before I send payment. I've been lucky thus far. I've met some fantastic gentlemen here on 24hourcampfire and appreciate all of you.

Two years ago, I got a call from Jamacia. They said it was Publisher's Clearing House calling from New York.

They wanted me to pay insurance with a credit card for the big check they were delivering that day.

They called on my cell phone and could not tell me my name or address.

Total scam. I did not fall for that.
