I was reminded of my own naïveté today… Wife and I are in OKC visiting for a few days and I was chatting with a 50ish year old fella at the gas station…. He claimed he had never seen an ocean in his lifetime…. Crazy to hear living in Cali my whole life less than a couple hours from the pacific….. So let’s hear it…. Who has never seen the ocean?
Ps…. Apologies if Wabi has already asked this 🤣

Funny.
Whenever we'd go see relatives in TX or TN, they'd always ask us "what's it like living on the beach?"
LOL

Not to mention the variety of beaches and climates from Northern to Southern Kommiefornia.
Daughter flew to Myrtle Beach for a bachelorette party of one of her college room mates.
She's a NorKal surfer girl and she was floored by the difference.

My first time seeing the ocean was flying over it on the way to Johannesburg at age 19. Hours and hours in a 747 and still over the ocean. Oh, and when i landed i saw real black people too.
I was glad I was in a plane with 4 engines. Last time I went it was in a plane with only 2 engines, I think a 767-400. I was relieved when we landed in Dakkar for fuel. I don't like flying that far over water. I've done it to Tel Aviv and back, to Japan, from Hong Kong and some others and I just don't like being that far out with nothing but water for thousands of miles.
Scariest flight besides when a lady pilot almost crashed us in a field in Hawaii was flying dragon air on an old Russian airliner from Xian to Hong Kong. The old jet liner had 4 engines but they were all back by the tail wing side by side 2 on each side. If one blew it would probably take out at least one other and maybe the tail wing. Smokey old Russian plane was kind of cool in retrospect but unnerving at the time.

I can't imagine not having seen an ocean, but then again I played in the Atlantic as a kid less than 9 years old, and the Pacific from then up until recently.

USCG Masters License for 20 years... commercial, charter, and sport fishing... and when I look out my window over my shoulder I see saltwater.

I’ve got a neighbor in his early 70’s that just saw the ocean for the 1st time last year. I remember as a young man I was telling this old farmer about deer hunting around Tupper Lake in the Adirondacks, about an hour drive from here. All he said was, “that sounds nice, I would love to see it someday.” It blows my mind that some folks choose to live in such a small world. These are the same people who get their news from The CBS Evening News because that’s where they always got it, and they believe every word of the propaganda handed to them.

Spent 13 years working offshore rigs in the gulf. I’ve seen water.
I’ve never seen real, a honest snow. Not the melt in a a day dusting we get in MS.

Lived in Kentucky, Illinois, and Ohio my whole life. I’ve been to California and have seen the Pacific Ocean. Been to Florida and seen the Atlantic. Never been to the Gulf of Mexico.
