I’ve had the Ruger AR/5.56 for several years now. It’s a freakin hoot to shoot, and it did so well with the factory battle sights, that I decided to mount a 3x9x40 scope so I could really ring it out. I’ve found that it particularly likes the Hornady 55 grn VMax over Some H335. I’m getting just over 3100 FPS outta an 18 inch pipe, and keeping them all within MOA! My only complaint is trying to find the damn brass after I do a magazine dump. I’m looking at picking up a brass catcher, which will eliminate hunting the damn things outta the grass. Any recommendations, something that will work well with a scope? 7mm

Someone recommended the Brass Goat sold on Amazon for 40 bucks sometime back. It works well.

I have a Caldwell. Wont work with the setup on the 223 as the mount is far enough forward and you can't get the bracket far enough back to catch brass.
I think somebody builds one that attaches with a velcro strap.

I recommend the Brass Goat. See pics and reviews of the Brass Goat in the thread Brass Catcher for use with a scope

The Lyman/TacStar (#1081240) works great. I have one with three mounts (#1081242) so I can move it from rifle to rifle.

If at the range, I simply use the part that clips on the receiver to dump the brass onto the bench top. Let em cool a second, dump them in the bag "to be reloaded".

Good deal, you guys told me what I wanted to know. I missed the previous thread. Looks like I’ll be ordering the brass goat. I’ve been improvising a curtain for shooting from the bench. Thanks! 7mm

I have the caldwell but hardly use it, my brass is usually in about a foot radius at 4 o'clock. My last one flung it anywhere so I use to clip my hat band around the scope and it would drop brass on the bench.

I have the Caldwell Pic Rail catcher that has a picatinny mount to which the catcher attaches when needed. I am perfectly happy with it, and like it much better than the velcro model.

The Caldwell catcher that attaches using a strap with velcro works ok Not on a .458 SOCOM....(grin) Hell, the Brass Goat jumps off after a few rounds. That cartridge is the acid test for items attached to your rifle. I imagine the other hard recoilers do the same. The only one that stays put is the one that slips onto an attachment to the rail, but mounts can get in the way of that. I believe it's a Caldwell, too. But on my 5.56s and 6.8s, the velcro strap caldwell works fine.

I used the Caldwell bags that mounted on the rail for years. Then along came the Brass Goat. Hoo Boy. The greatest thing since sliced bread. Finally got tired of all the jams when a shell would bounce back into the receiver. Went back to the bags and stuck that goat under the truck seat just in case of emergencies.
I could wish a lot of things on my worst enemy but neuropathy ain't one of them.

I run a couple of Brass Goats on some of mine. Awesome little catcher! Especially when night hunting.
