I will be hunting where shots will be 50 yards to 500 yards max on corn fields. I had a Leupold 3-9x40 on my .308 Handi Rifle and was great out to 300 yards.

That would still be plenty of magnification for big game at 500.

A lot depends on what is important to you. Weight? Low light? How are your eyes?
In general for the criteria given my preference would be FFP in the 2.5-10 range mil/mil that has repeatable dialing. YMMV.
You could also do worse than a fixed 6 or 10 from SWFA.

Burris Fullfield II 3x9; if you want bigger, the scope Duke mentioned. If you are in a good box stand, then hey, go bigger yet with a 50mm Obj, i.e. 5-20 or similar.

Yeah, but his reticle and turrets may be the limiting factor. What a lot of guys don't get. Yeah, the magnification is fine. Some guys don't give a chidt if they dump a full magazine at a big game animal either.

I'd familiarize myself with the first scope you mention. Not just the regular old FFII though, it would have the ballistic plex reticle. Plenty good out to 500 with practice.

My Swarovski z3 4-12x50 did very well on my 308.

Tons of good options out there, like others mention. What’s the budget? My range only goes to 400yds, but kill shots aren’t that hard with basic Leupold 3-9, 3.5-10, and 4-12 models that have additional aiming points in the reticle. I don’t generally spin turrets on deer, as my hunting is often lanes and pipelines where shots are fairly quick.

I use a 3-10X42 Night Force SHV on my .308 Win, my .300 H&H wears a VX-III 2.5-8X36. I haven't shot any game out to 500 yards with either, but the ring steel pretty well at that range. The Night Force makes it a lot easier to do than the Leupold. There are a lot of options for a scope that'll work for what you're wanting.

I have a 2-7x32 Leupold on my .308W. I figure if I can’t hit it with that, I don’t need to be shooting at it. Burris FF II 3-9x40 would do fine for the .300 WM or .308W. You can always spend more money.

I have a Swarovski Z3 3-10X42 (BRH Reticle) on a Fierce Fury 7mm-08 and a Burris FFII 3-9X40 Ballistic Plex Reticle on a Kimber Montana 6.5CM.
The Z3 is a bit brighter but for my hunting range which maxes out at roughly 500 yards the FFII does everything I need it to for 1/4th the cost.

I have a VX2 3-9 CDS on my 270. At 600 yards the hunting cross hair covers 8” gong almost 100%.
3.5-10 on my 06 is much better but the 3-12 on my 6.5 makes a world of difference.

For the money the Vortex Diamondback 4-16x44HP which I think is called tactical model now .
Have one on a 308 and 300 Win .
Have had no regrets .
Originally bought a couple of 2-8’s and liked them so well I tried the 4-16’s and have never regretted either .
I’ve got some leupold scopes in the VXII’s and VXIII’s and Bushnell 4200’s 4-16’s seems to me they’re as good as any of them .

I have a couple Vortex PST's and they were fine in midday but as soon as it got gray they went dark and it was tunnel vision with a faraway light winking at the other end a mile away ...... a friend of mine has a Diamondback on his 7mm Rem Mag, while sighting in for moose a few seasons back he asked me to take a 3 shot group, I was shocked at how shi t ty the optics were, in broad daylight at 100 yards, I struggled to aim through the horrific glass ... my kids Tikka 300 WSM has a Bushnell Elite 4200 scope on it and it was 1 million times clearer and easier to aim with... and has accounted for several 60"+ bull moose .... Vortex ... it's not what you think it is, if you paid less than $1k for it .....
