Now I drive by two stores in my area all the time and don't even think about stopping in. In fact, Cabelas would pretty much be the last place I ever stopped if I needed hunting/fishing/camping gear.

I've switched over to Sportsman's Warehouse and Scheels for my brick and mortar outlets.

Its the end of an era.

This exactly.

The Cab store in Hammond INdiana had a gun library
I liked to stop and look. Many years ago on my way to Chicago for Thanksgiving I found a Colt Trooper in 22LR
It’s an awesome piece
They had that and the bargain cave
It was worth a stop
Today just drive by on the way to Chicago
We have an out post in Saginaw MI if anything it’s a return depot for an on line purchase usually

I truly believe Johnny Morris is a great American success story
But not really for top quality more for bringing lots of sporting goods to the masses
It depends how you measure success but in my book he sure is

One time out of curiosity I took a Mannlicher Schoenauer Model 1903 in 6.5x54MS to a Cabelas in the Denver area to see what they would offer. I wasn't really interested in selling it but curious what they would offer since you just don't see those very often. They offered $250. I laughed at them and took the rifle home.

They still have not shipped the rifle that was paid for a week ago. Supposedly tomorrow is the day it is to be shipped,if it is not shipped then the order is cancelled.

The Gun Library is different from store to store. I swear you could buy one from one library and sell it to another. They aren’t as good as they used to be, their inventory is nowhere near what it was before.

I did buy a Winchester 1876 from the Dallas store, they were fast, courteous and knowledgeable. They shipped it directly to me and didn’t charge me for shipping or for using a credit card.

You can’t beat that service anywhere…

Not like Walmart at all, it is like going to BassPro and I haven't darkened the doorways to one of those in a very long time.

For about a year or two the gun library at the local Cabelas here in Billings was turned into, what appeared to be, the Weatherby display section. I speculate that the Weatherby sales person assigned to Cabelas/Bass Pro, did quite well for himself in the past couple of years.

The used gun racks have also been reduced significantly and what remain of what were once used gun racks now contain about a dozen or so used firearms and are now loaded with new low dollar shotguns of various makes.

A person I know bought 50 Mark V's about 2 years ago from Cabelas on a 50% closeout deal. Weatherby moved a bunch before the move to Wyoming.

Its worse than Walmart sometimes. Walmart has better prices and a better selection too..

A friend bought a Henry from another Cabelas and had it shipped to the Mitchell, SD store. We drove down to pick it up. The store was basically empty of hunting/shooting stuff. We waited two hours for them to get the paperwork done. My wife worked for Cabelas years ago in Rapid City before Bass Pro took them over. They had decent clothes, boots etc. besides having decent offerings on hunting/shooting stuff.

Bass Pro screwed up Cabelas bad!!! I never plan to return to another Cabelas!

I prefer classic.
