Hey all!

New guy just found the forum here and was quite stoked to see a devoted left hand section! I am actually a natural righty, but being blind in my right eye I adapted to left hand shooting young and never looked back.

Anyhow, I ended up married with kids city living for a long time and got out of hunting and shooting for pretty much three decades and only recently started getting back into it. So far I have acquired a new CZ557 chambered in 30.06 and scooped up a solid used .22 CZ452, both in lefty, and now I am researching and on the hunt for a solid varmint chambering. I like the idea of a 22-250, .257 or a 25.06. Not closed to other options but these are the three that seem to tickle my fancy.

Being in Canada we have a lot less selection available in the wild than our American neighbours, so I am trying to put together a list of specific models to keep an eye out for so when one comes up I can make an easy grab for it. I would love any suggestions for specific rifles to watch for, either new or more vintage. Aesthetically my preference is to wood stocks and blued barrels but I am not 100% on this. I am more concerned with a good shooter than pretty but combining the two is never a bad thing.

So I would love to hear any opinions from fellow lefty shooters!

Cheers!

Welcome to the fire and I'm glad to see another lefty here. Being that you have a couple of CZ's, I would be on the hunt for a LH CZ 527 in 223 Remington. They have quit making them but occasionally you'll find them on gunbroker.com or some of the other auction sites. Also, the Remington 700 SPS in various calibers would be a good grab. 223, 22-250 & 243 come to mind.

Good luck in your search and report back with your success.

I have a few lefty varmint guns. All left handed mini Mausers. 17 Rem, 6mmx222, 6x45, 25-222 Copperhead. I have another mini Mauser action. Yet to be determined what it will become. Probably a 222. Maybe a 221.

We’ve accepted an offer on our house and are moving down to coyote and bird country. I anticipate much fun with the minis.

Tikka makes or made a 1 in 8 twist stainless 22-250 as well as a blued 17HMR. I have an Anschutz 22 Hornet. Ruger also made a M77 in 25-06

I’m the same way, blind in my right eye so I have to shoot left. The 22-250 would be a great one to get. I don’t have one, but the 22-250 AI will be my next build. I highly recommend the 223. Plenty of reasons why. I just loaded 1500 for my bolt and gas gun. That comes out to 6 pounds of powder. Not too bad when we’re talking volume. The 06 or 22-250 will net you much less per pound. Another positive is that I find brass at the range very often and it’s always once fired and good amounts of matching head stamps. I collect the brass, but I’m good in that dept. I know there will never be the excuse that I can’t find brass with a 223. I even have friends that don’t reload that give me theirs. I never find 06 or 22-250 brass at the range nor is anyone offering me theirs so it could be a hassle to get some. Another reason is that the 223 is just plain cool and very accurate. My 223 bolt gun is my favorite thing ever.

Ruger made the LH Hawkeye in .204 discontinued but there out there used.

I have a very nice LH Zastava in 223 that I could be talked out of. Reworked factory wood, extended bolt handle, factory set trigger.
Just never use it.
