I've never been more disappointed to draw a hunt. I drew deer in 54 down your way which is my go to unit and I'd normally be extatic about it. However my boy is 10 this year and it's his first year hunting. I was going to put him in with me but the lady at the fish and game office said he'd have better odds on the youth hunt draw. So I put him in for youth hunt and me regular. I drew and he did not. I'm heart broken for him and I have to tell him he didn't draw in the morning.
We both didn't draw for elk or rifle antelope but drew a second choice antelope archery tag. He's not big enough to pull a hunting weight bow. There were only 75 tags and we drew it second choice so it's not a high demand tag. I've killed more antelope with a bow than with a rifle but I'm not excited about the antelope archery tag. I wish they'd allow me to give my deer tag to my boy. I'd much rather see him get a deer than me.

Call the idfg & ask. If you don’t buy your deer tag by Aug 1 you forfeit the permit. Find out if you can then buy a regular tag.

Zeros for me. In 35 years I have yet to draw a bull tag. Every one I've killed is otc. Let me say that once I do get the chance.....I will rain hell on my tag.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.

Bb BB, You can donate your controlled hunt tag to your son, according to the regs. The Idaho regs even allow for grandparents to donate their controlled hunt tags to their grandchildren.

Haven't drawn anything in years. I think it pains them to send me unlimited controlled hunt tags. I believe being honest on a couple of their surveys has me on the chit list.
My son and his buddy drew one of the most coveted hunts in Idaho. Unit 54 Archery Bulls. They ask if I wanted to put in with them........."no thanks, I'm going to put in on something with better odds".........doh.

Thanks Lonny, I checked it out and I can donate it which I'll do. Now I've got to get him practicing. I just put a mini howa 6.5 grendal in an mdt lss chassis with and adjustable stock. I put a limited run weaver tactical 3-9x40 mil/mil that I had nib on it for him so I can dial it. I'll load him some 129g ablrs over 8208xbr and get him to the range. Actually I'll probably drop my 7.62 x39 mini howa in the chassis and let him burn a case of Russian ammo this summer. No substitute for trigger time. Were so excited I can donate the tag. We need to get mom to put in next year. She doesn't want to hunt but the kids do. Bb

Zip for me.
Heading over to archery hunt SW Idaho over by W Yellowstone again. I got into elk every day last year. Downside is the amount of grizzly in that area
Probably unit 1 again for deer. Time to put out trail cams
