Some guy backpacking near Franc's Peak got mauled. I can see Franc's out the window of my office and done a lot of hunting in that area. Bear AttackWhen rescuers arrived at the beacon signal source, they found a 68-year-old male from Buffalo, New York, on a multi-day backpacking trip, who had encountered a grizzly bear and was severely mauled. The attack had happened too quickly to deploy bear spray, which he did have. The patient was quickly loaded in the Huey and flown to a landing zone in the Wood River area, where he was transferred to the Guardian Medical Helicopter and transported to Billings, Montana for treatment. Any idea how far that 68yo guy had to hike in? That looks like difficult terrain.

Two grizzly attacks in the Island Park unit Idaho while I was archery elk hunting last year in September. I saw two walk by from my tree stand about 50 yards away
One grizzly attack a few miles north of me last week on two bear hunters
Maybe I should have reported it on here and put a pic of me and a marlin I caught and tried to sell something

Meadow Creek Basin is right off Taco's nose and there is a good trail from the bottom, Wood River, right to the spot where those news pictures were taken. I have pictures of me and Taco within a hundered yard or so of the news pictures and on a strong mule you can be there in a few hours with a lunch break. The picture in my avatar is on the north slope of Franc's peak and the attack was on the south side. Lots of quicksand on that flat during the summer. It's not unusual to see a dozen bears up there in the right few week of the larva hatch.
