The past couple of months I have considered a 22 LR Upper, a conversion unit or possibly a complete 22 LR AR-15 style rifle for some lower cost plinking with the grandkids and chasing the local ground squirrels.

Does anyone have any firsthand experience with the Tippmann Arms M4-22 rifles?

A few have recommended the Tippmann Arms rifles and the reviews all seem positive.

I have handled the S&W M&P 15-22 and put a couple of mags through one; it seems like it would fit the bill for a little less money.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I have two S&W M&P 15-22s and one Tippmann. I like the S&Ws well enough; but the Tippmann is much, much nicer. Well worth the additional cost for me.

My friend has the MP and I have the Elite pistol. The weight on the Tippmann with the metal rail is very nice. I will say that both have functioned pretty flawlessly and that's saying something for rimfire.

I went with the Tippmann Arms M-4 Elite Tactical Rifle about 6 weeks ago and so far, it's exceeding my expectations.

Excellent build quality, really like the proprietary magazines (I need to secure a few more); put a SIG Romeo 5 on it and dialed in at 50 yards.

No FTF or FTE issues, haven't found any standard or high velocity ammo that it won't cycle and Federal Bulk Pack 325 CT Auto Match shoots around an inch for 5 rounds @ 50 yards.

It's a lot of fun, I had almost forgotten the simple pleasure of casual plinking.

Too Late to help, but...

After looking at everything available, I too went with the Tippman.

S&W with it's cheap polymer upper & lower and reported 'plinker' accuracy, was never in the running.

The Tippman's all metal construction (the elite), last round bolt hold open, a functioning forward assist, it's been reliable, and has OK accuracy.

Put a scope on it to test accuracy, now has a red dot.

I'll try it later after getting some rounds through it and see if the accuracy improves.
