Marveled at this movie as a kid. Probably helped spur my love of the out of doors.

If you hadn’t already noticed, the movie wasn’t ruined by casting a leading lady that adds nothing to the show…

Just a little aside here. The actress in Chato's Land also never made another movie. Chato's wife.

I remember the night my mom and dad went to see this movie. They talked about it for days afterwards.
I have watch it a few times myself but not in years. I think I have it on DVD, I’ll have to get it out and watch it again.

Bear Claw Chris Lapp:

"Full time night woman? I never could find no tracks on a woman's heart. I packed me a squaw for ten year, Pilgrim. Cheyenne, she were, and the meanest b*tch that ever balled for beads. I lodge-poled her at Deadwood Creek, and traded her for a Hawken gun. But don't get me wrong; I loves the womens, I surely do. But I swear, a woman's breast is the hardest rock that the Almighty ever made on this earth, and I can find no sign on it."

A great read about Johnston is The Avenging Fury of the Plains. Crow Killer is largely fiction. Johnston was not at war with the Crow, that is made up for the novel. Hard to find the truth about these men, but The Crow Killer is not it. But still a great read.

Hmmm… I’m thinking of a couple of others that shade it a bit. Right off the top of my head, Zulu and Tombstone are better, I think. Still, it made a big impression on me.

I saw this movie when it came out in Kenora Ontario when on a fishing trip with family and friends when I was 15. It made an impression on me, and ended up soon after in Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana.
Have been on dozens of horseback hunting pack trips since, all DIY and this movie with it's scenery had much to do with it I'm sure.

But haven't skinned a griz or eaten any Crow livers ...........yet.

Great Movie.I watch movies for entertainment.If the movies theme trips my trigger I watch it.I really could give a f u c k what an actors politics are.If you don`t watch movies because of politics,that`s your choice.I don`t give a f u c k about that either.

So many in the movie business are liberals. If someone enjoys watching movies, who is he hurting by boycotting the movie business?

Thanks for that fascinating video on the making of the movie. There was some mention of Jeremiah Johnson in a thread on this website last year and it made me order a DVD of it because I hadn't seen it in a couple decades or so. Finally got around to watching it on a snowy morning this past January. Even paused it at the scene where Redford finds the frozen Hatchet Jack and got my Canon Rebel and took a good pic of Jack sitting there frozen solid with the rifle. E-mailed it to a buddy of mine who now lives down south and asked him if he remembers freezing his ass off at the base of a tree during deer season.

My favorite movie. Don’t know how many times I’ve watched it, but I’m going to have to watch it again.
