I have my Dad's 20ga Montgomery Ward brand pump shotgun. It has an engraved/stamped scene of a quail and English Setter on the receiver. The barrel is 26" and has an adjustable choke. It has a single vs double action bar setup.

Does anyone know of who made these? My guess is Mossberg? It definitely is not a Remington; possibly Winchester or Hi-Standard? Thoughts?

Aluminum or steel receiver?

Savage had a single action bar with top thumb safety.

Yes. Just checked the underside of the receiver. Western Field 550CR.
The adjustable choke has been "frozen" on mod since about 1975. I doused it in Kroil last night.....still doesn't want to move. May have to stay that way......thanks guys!

A few gentle heat cycles with the propane torch would probably loosen it up.

Time is your friend on your polychoke. Get you a coffee can or something like that filled with enough oil to cover the choke and turn your barrel upside down and stand it up in a corner somewhere out of your way and every week or 2 give it a try. I’ll bet money it will come loose if your patient enough!!

Keep soaking with kroil then gently heat with a torch or heat gun.

If no luck, soak, heat, rinse, repeat.

Try the can trick, use something light. Diesel fuel with a splash of Marvel Mystery oil was my Dad's favorite loosening mix.

I used to have a 20 ga Montgomery Ward/Western Field 550 that I bought new in late 70s. 28 in barrel, C-lect adjustable choke. Was definitely made by Mossberg. Held on to it until about 15 or 20 yrs ago when I gave it to my cousin's son.

Been soaking in Kroil for 2 weeks. Still not budging. Time to get some heat on that choke......will a heat gun work? This is a new challenge for me.
