Finally got the Golden Eagle out this morning with a good buddy on my favorite river. Caught a ton of dinks… first two casts at launch yielded enthusiastic customers…

First pic is of the first fish I’ve caught from my canoe in prolly a decade

The #2 gold Mepps on a light rod/reel setup is wonderful for these guys it’s just nuts how energetic and willing they are!!

I put the whopper plopper on my med/light rig and found a decent little smallie who wanted it, then as we approached the slack water behind the dam a largemouth.

Water is already low and clear so we saw some absolute behemoths that I’m constantly chasing, but even tiny smallies are a friggin hoot! My son in law and his buddy are way into it now too so this isn’t the end of my fun this weekend…

Congrats, looks like you had some good fishing in a good spot with no competition on a holiday weekend. Good photos too. Brings back some good memories. We used to catch a lot of Smallmouths on Mepps river fishing in Va.

Yeah the stretch we hit is accessible by boat only, but at the take out there were tubers and kayakers hitting the stretch below. I really wish we coulda been there earlier but I had to drop my son at work.

Son in law and I are gonna go back Monday morning and hit em again.

Smallies rule.

Tough to beat good smallies fishing. Looks like a great time!

Went out yesterday with my son in law and a couple of his friends. I’ve been wanting a northern all season and he’d bought a new $15 swim bait his friends were digging him out about. I pointed out the northern water and he started working it and got this little hammer handle within just a few minutes:

That’s me holding it… he didn’t want to have it out of the water any longer than absolutely necessary…

Broke the pole I’d given him so we’re gonna have to do some shopping!

Hooked a second northern but hadn’t re-tied after the first and lost the lure… we’ll be replacing it ASAP!!

Great times!

When you’re catching Northerns, you’re going to lose some tackle!
