Unless I totally missed something, this guy is trying to sell a "set" that is not a real set. Someone just put these parts together. The case is all wrong, the clasp is wrong, the case coloring does not look at all like Savage did it, and the finish is all wrong. Plus, this guy is asking $15k and is not putting down any description at all beyond, "see photos". Curious as to your thoughts. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/938757350

Case is of recent manufacture, not even close in appearance or construction to an original Savage case. $15K is wishful thinking in the extreme.

I saw that and had many of all your questions. My favorite is in description for 15 grand it says "see pictures"! I'm no expert, but nothing looked right to me. I also didn't want to "post a current auction"! $15,000.00 hahaha!

rifle barrel has interrupted threads, shotgun barrel has full threads. Both barrels have rifle type TD attachment. Maybe he meant $1500. That would be about right for an assortment of parts, maybe.

Without reference to any specific auction of course... Mere reference to "see photos" without narrative, such... A Porteous Pilot move! Washing his hands of hazarding any personal description. Literally: "You see what you get!" Great "liability avoidance tool!"
Just my take! Best! John

All 410 barrels will have full threads, but that doesn't mean it's not "right" or original to an 1899 with interrupted threads. You could buy 410 barrels in 1921 and later for 1899's made prior to 1919. In regards to a factory cased set, they will all have be 300 Savage 99's which were always full threads.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

UPDATE: The seller on this item insists its a real factory set that is "documented". Too funny.

Do you think GB cares if people flat out lie and misrepresent stuff. What happens if an unknowing buyer falls for this, tries to letter it, and it comes back a big nothing. GB just throws their hands in the air and says, we told you, sellers responsibility?

Lets just give Reed1911 the benefit of the doubt. He may know 1911's, but knows nothing of 1899's, not uncommon. What if he got took big time? I was in a pawn shop and they had a Civil War rifle on the wall for several thousand dollars. I forget what it was, but lets just say it was a Springfield. I asked if I could see it. I know little about those guns. But, when I saw Navy Arms on it, I knew he got took. I pointed out if it was a Springfield, it would say Springfield, not Navy Arms, a modern company that made repro's. Told him he could still buy a brand new one for about $350. Looked like he was going to start crying. He said he took the kids story hook line and sinker. Gave him half what he was asking.
Now, I was just being nice, personally, I think Reed1911 is a hook.
