Anyone know if 4.25" M69 will fit? I have asked HPG but no rely so far.

I ride an ATV down miles of hot Florida crushed lime stone and sand/dirt roads and often I am not in the lead, so its dusty no matter how far you drop back. I like the idea of having my short backup gun securely enclosed, handy (targets of opportunity, pigs mostly, abound and the landowner strongly advocate their eradication) and on my person while scouting hunting sites. I tried belt holsters but the gun(s) got filthy and I was constantly checking to see if they were still aboard. Old habit.

Any other products meet my criteria? Suggestions welcome.

A 4" 625 mt gun fits in a HPG runners kit bag with a little of room to spare. That's at an angle like you have pictured. The grip size can make a bit of a difference as well as barrel length. I "think" the 69 would fit but it would be right on the top of what it will take....which isn't a bad thing.

The HPG bag really shines for what you're talking about. I use one on a tractor when bushhogging and it does a great job keeping dust off.

Thank you both for the pics and info.

HPG web site says a orignal bag (11.5" x7.5", inside, outside, who knows) will accommodate a 4" N frame, so I looked up a 4" 629 and the catalog length for it is 9.63". The M69 comes in at 9.6". I do have 500x tamer grips on the M69 so placing it on a diagonal purposely allows the RD on top a bit of room. Looks like it will be GTG. Now to get one ordered.

Thanks much!

The recon harness is a great add on for the kit bag as it allows you to carry a water bladder and drink while riding.

A 5" N Frame will fit in an HPG Recon bag. Don't know about the RDO though.

Same length and height as the Orignal, Runners etc. but the Recon is .5" thinner. 1.5" vs 2.0" Enough make a difference?

Btw is that a Heavy or the regular? Same size but a few more bells and such with the heavy.

Thanks. I adapted a hydration system from my motorcycle to the ATV.

I have the heavy recon and a regular recon or the runner but the heavy recon is the way Iā€™d go. I use the smaller one to run with and it fills up quick. Not sure my 4ā€ N frame mountain gun would fit in it but it does in the heavy.

I also had an original kit bag and it has a third zippered compartment. But I sold it after buying the HR.

It all depends on how much extra gear you want to carry. HPG is good stuff.

What's wrong with a simple top flap belt holster?

The 629 4ā€ does fit in the Recon bag.

And the Heavy Recon shown for size comparison. Itā€™s got thicker pockets.

Your heavy, does it seem tight at the cylinder? HPG's suggests the larger Orignal kit with its 2" pocket rather than the smaller 1.5" Recon for K model guns. I ask because my L frame M69 is smaller at the cylinder but it does have a profile width similar to the K due to the RDO mounted.

Thanks

Heavy Recon with the front pocket full of junk and the back pocket with toilet paper, wipes and an emergency rain poncho plus the 629.

Great comparison pics and information! A Heavy Recon is on the way.

Thanks to all for replies.

A Kit Bag and M&P 340 go together like peas and carrots, the ergos with a K Frame canā€™t compare.

The HPG Heavy Recon bag arrived today. Very nice, well constructed and will suit my needs very well. My 4.25" Model 69 with 500x grips and RDO fits in with a bit of room to spare and surprise, surprise my 5" Ruger GP100 .357 with a RDO also fits. Now to decide which gun to keep but that's another story.

If I have one nit pic about the bag its the two short straps on the top just above the zipper. They don't seem to do anything but just hang there and in the way of opening/closing the rear compartment. I took em off. What are they for?

I believe you are referring to the straps that hook onto a separate back pack harness. Yes, take them off until needed.

The grey straps hooked into the elk harness shown here?

Probably so. I see them in one of your earlier pics. I took the fabric strap off and folded the buckle back and clipped it on the harness strap. Out of the way but there if needed.
Its a long way from the 782 gear I used long ago. smile
