Man I hate it. Here I am with another dose of it, the second time this year.
Is there any over the counter product/treatment that’s better than an oil thinning soap and then Calagel as marketed by Tecnu?

Go to doctor, get shots to get rid of it. I’ve had it bad a few times. If I get a little spot, I rub it raw with bleach. That stops it.

Technu Extreme (not the gel) and scrub it in good is the best OTC stuff I’ve found. But yeah, in the heat of summer a shot or prednisone.

Sorry, bro!

I don’t know of any remedies, but as a suggestion, try to lay off your junk until it clears.

Pears 🍐 sent too.

I use boudreauxs butt paste. It seams to work good with the humidity around here, and just a lil bit will take care of a large area. It is also good for other things.

If you didn't wash the oil (urushiol) off after fifteen minutes or so of contact your best bet is antihistamines and probably a shot of prednisone.
Good old calamine helps.

What hanco said.

When I was a kid I had it from spring until I went back to school.

Now when I get it, it shows up again in the same places and scars I had it all those years ago, but I don't have my eyes swelling shut.

The oil soaps ease it a bit, but cortisone/prednisone are the only things that really work fast. Everything else is two to three weeks of it spreading all over, drying and finally going away.

One of my buddies was burning brush, he didn't realize poison ivy was mixed in with it. He breathed in the smoke from it. put him in ICU and almost killed him.

There was a lot of poison ivy where I grew up.I got it really bad once. Both arms, hands and even my pecker.Don't piss if you been around that stuff and you have it on your hands,it will get you.The doctor gave me some pills for it and it cleared up in about a week. The doctor will get you way better stuff than what you can buy over the counter. When I worked for the power co-op.We often had to set power poles in the middle of big patches of poison ivy.As soon as I could after being in it,I'd wash my hands and arms with soap and water and I'd never break out from it.Certainly some nasty stuff if your allergic to it.

Rus Tox. It works for my wife. Highly sensitive to poison ivy, talking hospital bad. She gets rus tox at Amazon. Oral solution you hold under the tongue then swallow. May get a small patch of ivy during the summer but its minor.

The technu scrub is by far the best thing I’ve found to use. Like Rogers’s buddy my daughter inhaled some from a brush pile we were burning. Her face swelled up pretty bad and her eyes were swelling shut, but we were able to get it under control with Benadryl.

Carry some alcohol wipes. Not the little prep pads but some big ones. They come in like 5x7 size. Alcohol will take the ivy oil right off if you get it before it gets very red.
Here's an example from Walmart: ALCOHOL WIPES

I always have a Zep bottle of 91% isopropyl alcohol in the truck, that and a roll of shop towels. It also cuts diesel and grease better than most alternatives.

If you have a parts washer, that's also good place to wash up after exposure.

Get it several times a year. Alcohol and witch hazel work for me.

Sumac is worse. Got it once in Missouri while camping near Cuba. Darn near kilt me.

Had poison ivy as a kid a lot. Even landed in the hospital with it once. Here's what I did. I found a nice patch of poison ivy growing near the house and pulled up a chair. I sat there for at least an hour looking at the stuff. Once it was burned into my memory I never had a problem with it again because I can spot the stuff at ten paces. Every time I can spot the stuff, even just a couple of plants.
