I haven't been on the 'Fire much recently, but will summarize some news that you may not have heard.
I am simultaneously thankful and saddened to report that Baxter Black died June 10th.
My wife and I returned yesterday from the memorial service for our dear friend, Dr. Baxter Black, former feedlot veterinarian, classmate, rural philosopher and top hand cowboy poet/humorist.
I am thankful to have known him and his family, to have shared adventures and laughs, to have been a first-hand witness to his unique sense of humor and artistry with words. He touched the hearts of many.
I am saddened that we no longer will enjoy his earthly presence. He will be missed.
Vaya con Dios, Baxter
“You must endeavour to enjoy the pleasure of doing good. That is all that makes life valuable.” Robert E. Lee, in a letter to his invalid wife.
I believe I saw him in Elko back in 2006. Can't swear to it but I was there for a KTM Adventure Rally. There was a Steak Dinner and Cowboy Poet gathering included as part of the package. It was quite entertaining regardless of my memory clarity of the good Dr beimg one or not of the talented Cowboys that night.
Thank you Dr. Baxter Black may you Rest In Peace.

I hate to hear that. They played a daily story from him on our local radio station. Now that you mention it, I haven’t heard it in a while. Seemed like a genuinely good guy.

Believe you have a classmate up here in MT also.
Met Baxter years ago in the middle of nowhere when he was cutting cross country to go visit a friend in Forsyth.
Chatted with Baxter a bit and gave him good instructions. We said our good byes and as I pulled away, last thing he said was to say, "see ya later dog" to my dog in the bed of the pickup.
