Hi all,
I know this has been hashed out before here but the way technology changes I figured a new thread might be a good idea. My Family just bought a rural home in central Wisconsin. Cell service is NON existent till you get down the road just a bit. I have heard horror stories about Hughes Net. I see there are a couple other options. Supposedly Century Link is the landline provider but they say they do not offer internet there. I think I will call again tomorrow and see if I can talk to someone that lives on this side of the ocean.
Thanks in advance.
Bill

I'm rural as well, and have tried them all. Satellite (Xplornet), LTE, fixed wireless and they all suck. I've had Starlink (Elon Musk's co.) for the past 9 months and LOVE it. Total game changer. OK pings and up to 200 Mb down and unlimited data. NO more spinning circles.

Satellite only as a last resort.

Apply for Starlink now.

We went from 13 years on Hughsnet to 4 years on ViaStat. It works well. We are exploring Star Link, but it requires a look to the north sky which is something of a problem for our specific location.

Our little fire district is looking for a new internet service provider. From what I have heard Starlink provides very good service in the areas they serve. There is an upfront investment for the equipment, $500 for residential and $2500 for commercial. Still think it might be worth it. Maybe others know more.
At home we have Dish which uses Century Link wires. Pretty good service, probably the best in this area but the Century Link service technician in this area is outstanding and very conscientious. That is probably why we have such good service.

I have a Friend that has Starlink and he is trying to get me to get it for my property in Arizona.
The cost is what is holding me back.
