Lets say you are building a rifle Chambered in 7mm stw, and had to pick one weight of bullet, which one would it be ?

Mule deer,
Black tail deer,
Elk,
Moose,
Sheep,
Goat,
Antelope,
Black Bear.

140 TSX

It will drill every animal mentioned.

AGW

150...either Partition, Scirocco, or the like.

or

160 Partition, Accubond......etc

You place either one of those into the boiler room, and it is lights out.

Personally, I load the 150 Scirocco @ 3300 in my 7 STW. Hard to beat as a long range bomber.

I don't shoot the 160 as I have a 300RUM loaded with 200's for moose and big stuff.

Still, would not think twice about poking a well made 150 (premium) into anything out of my 7 STW.

The great thing about the STW is that is has the horsepower to haul ass with heavy stuff. That said, I would pick the 140 TSX every time.

I'd shoot the 140's, the 150's and the 160's and see if it had a preferance for any of the above.

I would start off with the TSX brand and most likely would end up there as well.

The 160 Noz Pt is one heck of a good slug as well.

I shoot a 7 Mashburn Super a lot and have used the 140,150,160 TSX and the 160 Noz for quite a bit of game. On thing is for sure and that is that I can't for the life of me tell any diff between the lot when it comes to killing ability.

One of my 7mmstw rifles loves the 140gr mrx.I will be using this bullet for all of my hunting with this rifle.

Without any doubt in my mind it would be the Barnes 120 grain TTSX.

oooh I am shooting the 140AB in mine now but that 120TTSX sounds fun. I also think the 130HV would be fun!!!

Here is a little more about my project. I'm building a 7mm stw, on a Ruger #1 with a 28" Krieger barrel. With a rate of twist of 1-in-11 or 1-in-12.

Your thoughts please ?

I'm a bit curious as to why the 11 and or 12 twist?

Perhaps I'm missing something?

A 140 grain Barnes MRX

1-in-11 or 1-in-12 for the heavy 150 to 170 grain bullet. A 120gr. would require a faster rate of twist to stablize the bullet. I believe.

You have it backwards. Get it 1-in-9 if you're going to shoot bullets heavier than 140 grains.

I took one on trade and sold it here. Shot some of the ammo that came with it and shipped the rest to the buyer. It was a Sendero, plenty heavy, so recoil was not bad with the 160s and 175s. I think those are the smart bullet to use, unless you are just infatuated with high velocity - you can get 100 and 110 grainers to stroke that part of your ego.

I had my 7mmstw rifles built with a 1 in 10" twist,and am pleased with the results.The velocity does seem to be a little higher than with a 1 in 9" twist.I have killed several elk and moose with premium 140gr bullets,and they performed very well.

I shoot a 150 grain NP at everything that walks.

My STW likes 160gr Partitions, do believe a 150 will do anything the 160 will though. Mine just happens to shoot 160s better.

when i had mine (factory ruger #1) it loved 150 Nps and scirroccos and that was all it saw after that, same as my 7 RUM
