In Oklahoma, if you want to go to a military base, go to the state capital or board an airplane, you MUST possess an "Enhanced DL".
This enhanced DL will become effective in 2023.
We don't go to military bases.
We don't attend events at the state capital or any of the state buildings in OKC.
We do, however, fly on occasion.
If we use our passport as ID to board a plane, the enhanced DL is not required.

The enhanced DL is good for 8 years.....but what other data is the Gov't gathering for this "enhanced" ID?

Yes - It's a federal requirement for these to do those things. Not state. All states are basically going to be issuing "enhanced DL's" eventually - you just have to have one by that date in May, 2023 or basically be the only way to have a DL after that date - be enhanced.

You will not get around this eventually unless willing to give up having a DL. I got the enhanced right away because I fly for work, was visiting military bases to see my kid and because I have a commercial DL - it's expensive to renew and may as well do it sooner than later at renewal time, instead of going "in between" so I can fly.

What was needed -

Original document or certified copy (not a photocopy, fax or scan) from each category is required. Some documents may be used for more than one category, whereas some will only satisfy the requirements of a single category. The document categories include:

Proof of Name and Date of Birth
Proof of Legal Presence in the U.S.
Proof of Identity
Proof of Name Change (if your name is different than what’s on your birth certificate, proof is needed for each name change)​
Proof of Address (two forms)​
Provide your Social Security Number

Pretty gravy and nothing nefarious.

I got mine (Texas) early last year. I was dreading going into the local DL office (appointment ONLY!!!). So I looked online for renewal info and there was a friggin' link to click for it on TX DPS!! I gave up my debit card info and that was it, no additional paperwork on my part. I'm guessing it was a 'Pandemic Special' just to keep people out of the offices.

Commyfornia made me pay to renew my license before they would let me apply and get the enhanced License.
So for now I have 2 DL Licinses that expire a year apart.
The Enhanced is the one that expires first.

We've had them here in Utah for quite a while. The enhancement is to ensure that it is really you, and that you are a citizen.

To board an airliner, but not to vote. To visit your state capitol someone above said? but not to vote. Makes total sense.

And you have to show it in order to vote . . . .

Or you can just bring your passport.....

Yeah,if it says your a registered Democrat, you can vote however many times as you want.

Same here. I renewed my CDL last year and it automatically updated to the new style.

I'm thinkin' of having one that would overlap our passports.

I don’t see the big deal, we travel a lot. County clerk did mine, hauled in a wad of records. Passport, birth certificate, ssa card, electric bill proof of residence.

Which reminds me, my passport expired last month. Uggh

Got mine over the New Years, I’m thinking I needed it to renew my passport along with all the other stuff Slumlord mentioned.

Renewed my driver's license back in March of 2019 and got an enhanced. I think it made it easier for me to get across the border into Canada but then in 2020 the scamdemic began and I ain't been across the border since and I'm not even sure what a border crossing entails nowadays. I wonder if they want proof of vaccination or something. Unless it's our wide open southern border.
