My wife finally got three pictures and my text to the image gallery and there they sit. She gave up and I know we are close. I would like help on my 99RS if I could get this stuff to the Savage Collectors.

99RS Sling and rear sight

I've had this rifle for a long time and never was sure if it was a RS or a R with a Redfield sight added.

The serial number is 5723xx. The sling is 7/8" and looks like embossed leather.

I have never seen a picture of an original sling.

The rear sight has an unmarked blank in the dove tail.

The rifle is in great condition and I hope it is a RS. Any ideas?

The 1950's 99RS's didn't ship with a sling as far as the catalog shows, that was a Version 1 thing. Savage did sell a couple of slings in the early 50's, and yours does look similar to the 1B, which was a 7/8" with swivel hooks.

The Version 2 99RS had the Redfield 70LH and rear sight dovetail filler. Is there a number on the front sight? Catalog says it should be a Lyman 31 Gold bead on a 99RS.

The front sight has Lyman printed on the right side, and it has a gold bead, but no number. The rifle hasn't been messed with much and all looks original.

I believe the number is on the bottom of the Lyman sights. Kinda hard to see...

Starting to sound you like you really have one!

All the '50s Rs I've seen had the standard Savage factory sight on them.
