I was resizing some 270 cases, and I had one come out with the neck pushed down into the case. I took the decapping pin out and found a piece of a case neck stuck in the die. Had to use an ez out to get it out. I never had a neck snap off in a resizing die before.

Sounds like insufficient sizing lube, try Imperial sizing wax and thank me when your sizing woes are over.

How the heck did you miss a resized case coming out of the die with no neck??????

It can happen with old brittle brass, but should have caught that missing neck. They can pull off.

Yes, for sure. Something I'd be concerned about is the condition of the other brass if it is from the same lot as the one that failed. That brass sounds like it needs to be annealed, or thrown out..

recently had a buddy have a head/case separation

brass stuck in chamber

Try this..correct sized plastic hollow wall fastener....drop into ...chamber....insert screw & snug up

Insert cleaning rod from muzzle & tap out plastic anchor along with stuck/broken brass

works great

Hopefully I never need to try that, but sounds like a great idea.

Yesterday while at the hardware store, I saw some plastic wall anchors that looked like a step drill. I'll bet those would work great for doing something like this. Just a thunk?

^^^^This^^^^ Learned it the hard way with 7.62x51 brass necked up for .358 Winchester. Left a neck in the chamber and had to have my gunsmith kiss the chamber with a reamer to remove it. Expensive lesson in annealing!

For head separation and case stuck in chamber try ECHO ruptured cartridge extractor. Don't ever go on a hunt without one in your pocket. Very cool tool to have handy...

Probably because I was in a rush, and not paying too close attention. My fault

We've all done similar. Haste makes waste and can really ruin your day in certain circumstances.

Brass bore brush of the appropriate size usually works when you have a case head separation.

this is what I've always used.. I've normally had a case come apart at the web if it came apart at all...

since I started annealing either each or every other time... I haven't had to deal with that problem....
