Like the 1899H became the 99E (solid frame) and 99F (takedown).

And the 1899 250-3000 became the 99G with 303 Savage, 30-30 Winchester, the spanking new 300 Savage and 22 Savage Hi-Power calibers available.

so with that high a serial number and not a cresent butt plate do I assume that its a special order?????

Have you seen what is stamped on the front of the receiver? Might be a special order long barrel 99F?

Norm, the 99B went from a 26" brl to a 24" brl at around 300,000. Can't say too much about your rifle till we know what is stamped on the front of the receiver and top and bottom of the barrel. Can't wait to find out more.

There's hardly ever a "firm" cutover point, a change to a model is usually date based rather than serial number based. Yours is very close to the 99F checkering implementation - but might have been finished earlier than others in that range. Especially possible given that it's a special order.

Very cool gun!

Checkered V1 99F's are pretty uncommon, I don't have one but I know a good number of folks on here do.

This is Rick's, I believe the serial is 366,5xx.

36412x not checkered and now we know 3663xx (we need at least the next number of the serial) is in this group.
36632x is checkered

Here are the checkered F's I have data on:
In 1937
36632x
36633x
36636x
36656x

in 1938
3770xx
377?xx
3785xx

In 1939
388?xx
3880xx
3884xx

in 1940
3951xx

in1941
3984xx

300 Sav 2ea
30-30 3 ea
303 3 ea
250-3000 3 ea
22HP 1 ea (I think this might be the hardest .22HP to find)

Are uncheckered F's in 22 Hi-P pretty rare too? Mine was produced in 1930.
