This year will be my first year, one of our deer camp members moved to Texas several years ago. He invited all of us down for a dove camp. So 5 of us are doing a road trip to hunt doves and hopefully do a offshore trip

I like shooting a shotgun and I like hunting. That early season dove hunt is like your first girlfriend "accidentally" touching your junk at the drive in movie.

I've got fond memories of some good dove hunts. Breakfast at the local Texaco truck stop. A group of us challenging a buddy to touch his dick to an electric fence, him doing it and saying it's not electric only to have it kick on and shock the shyt out of him. (Laughed so hard at that beer came out my nose.) Cutting through the bull field to get to an adjacent field to hunt, and having to hop the fence when the bull came at us. Watching doves twist and turn as they fly a guantlet of young shooters only to exit unscathed. Hearing guns go off and then someone yelling "stop shooting, it's a robin!" Pellets raining down on us. Dove hunting - good times.

Count me in. The last couple years the temp dropped into the 30’s the last couple days of August, and birds left. Hopefully not this year. Same here. Season starts September 1 but we usually get a frost right around that time and the doves are gone. Doesn't matter that it doesn't frost again for 3 more weeks. Those suckers have their bags packed and you won't see another one until May. Happens so often that if we do happen to get a dove season, I'm never ready for it.

Bring on those collared doves. They've run all the mournings away so they're all that's left. We can shoot collareds without season or limit but most are too close to buildings to shoot.

I haven't seen good dove hunting in seven or eight years. The ladt three seasons I even tried just plain SUCKED. Kind of what its been like here too.

Hunted mourning dove since I was a kid -
numbers here have been so low, the last ~ 5 years, I haven't even loaded a shotgun.
Saw a couple a while back, but nothing in the last month, or so.
Disappointing!
