I bought some federal blue box 45 grain hollow point loads and used them for sighting in my 1/7 twisted AR-15.

They hit the 100 yard target sideways and threw pieces of themselves all over the place.

I know there is no such thing as "over stabilized" but maybe they had a flaw or were too fragile for the twist?

I don't see any issues with the barrel or rifling or crown.

Anyone else ever had this issue with this product?

I am going to go back to the range soon and try different ammo just to make sure it's not the gun.

Upon reflection, they were 50 grain hp, not 45

Weird. I think you're on the right track, though, with your idea to shoot some different ammo. Who Knows what you'll find...

I’ve shot several thousand rounds of American Eagle 50 grain HP’s, Nosler Ballistic Tips, Vmax and Sierra’s in more than a couple of 1/7 twisted guns without a single one coming apart.

My quick twist 22-250 spins most thin skinned bullets to fast, read cheap ones and they never make the target.

The V-max and the BT in 55 grains handle the speed well.

I've shot a lot of 50 grain vmax out of a 7 twist AR.

I'd try a different bullet and see how it acts. If that one is squirrley toyou may have to send the upper back

I'd pull the firing pin and measure (5) or so rounds in COAL,then single feed same from the mag and a closed bolt. Simply charge as "normal"(with handle),rather than from a locked open bolt and then remeasure. On top of that, look for feed/function deformities upon projectiles and lastly, see how the feedramp/extension looks in extrapolation. If it's setting things back,I'd be aspooked of said fodder and would throw the rest off a fhuqking cliff. If projectiles are beat to fhuqk and compromised,I'd curtail same and remedy said woes. Hint.

You are fretting the wrong end of the spout. Hint..............

Well I bought the ammo on sale from Dunham's where I used to work. They buy a lot of seconds and insurance claims and damaged stuff for resale so it wouldn't surprise me if the ammo was somehow subpar to begin with.

Had countless arguments with customers and suppliers until someone let it slip that they were buying rejects and insurance claim items and selling them as new but without warranty or support from the manufacturers.

Pretty shady. Suddenly all the weird claims customers made and the strange answers we got from suppliers made perfect sense.

I believe you are correct. I have not run other ammo thru it yet but I suspect it's the ammo and either the ammo itself or like you said, the way this particular hp feeds in this gun.

Are the bullets really heavily crimped?

I’m just thinking a really heavy crimp may weaken the jacket enough to cause a failure at really high rpm.

Sounds like a job for a 1-12 twist to me.
