Have a few decades in the rear view mirror these days and was reflecting on days gone by in the shooting sports. One of the thoughts came about due to dialog on a different thread, that being that I've not shot a factory round of CF ammo in quite some time except for a .380 pistol and some trash .30 M1 ammo about 15 years ago. I began loading in the very early 70's for handguns, moved up to rifles in the mid '80's and shotguns around 2000. I haven't shot any critters with a jacketed bullet in about 20 years. My questions: What have you loaded and shot for over the years? My track record: .22 GTC, .22 Hornet/K-Hornet, .243 Win, .25-20 Win, .25-20 SS, .250 Savage, .257 Roberts, 7x57, .30 Carbine, .30-30, .30 Sneezer, .300 Weatherby, .38 Spcl, .357 Mag, 9mm, .358 Win, .38-55 Win, .40x.38-55 Win, .405 Win, .416 Rigby, .44 mag, .45-70, 20/16/12 Ga shot shells. So, just how loony are you?
I am..........disturbed.

Started loading for my dad's 12ga when I was a kid in the 60s, then got my own 12ga in the 70s, loaded thousands and thousands of 12ga.
90s I decided to load for my 06, dad had an old Herter's press and some items in a box in the barn he was given and never used, so I dusted it off and started researching... pretty much how I first started using a computer, my kids had to show me how.
I then started picking up guns to reload for... 243, 270, 7mm mauser, 338 mag, 7 weatherby mag, 7 mag, 7mm 08, 308, 6mm, 30 30. Just recently started 22 centerfire, bad timing with components shortage of powders/primers I never needed before... 222, 223, 22 250. Same with handguns 45acp and 357/38spec.

Not much, cartridge wise.
Just lots of them when I was shooting competition.
38spl, 45 Colt, 44-40, 12ga. Loaded some 44mag too.
Used to shoot about a 1000 rounds a week in practice/competition. Did that for years.
Used a progressive loader.

I started reloading in 1973, haven't shot a head of big game with a factory round ever. Same with handguns, only factory ammo I shoot is .22RF.

What is CF ammo?
9mm, .357 sig, 45 super.
223, 22-250, 25-06, 6.5 grendel, .308.
12 ga CF = Centerfire...as opposed to rimfire (RF), flintlock, caplock, etc....

Yes he is! That makes me a rookie! You know, It’s funny, I love rifles. Don’t know exactly why but even the stuff folks [bleep] on are still neat to me. Only rifle and cartridge I don’t much care for is a the AK47 and 7.62x39.. I’m sure it’s a dandy but I have a thing since they were usually used to hurt my friends and I. Same for the x54 version. They could all burn in hell and I’d buy the beer to watch them burn.

For me, it’s been Rifles. Started hand loading for a.308 when I was 14. When I got outta the Army, I got into it more. I thought it’d save me money. I soon found out it cost more, but allowed me a heckuva lot more shooting cheaper than buying factory stuff. And what’s more fun than recreational gunfire? Right now I’m loading .223, 22/250, .243, .257 Bob, 7x57, 7mm Rem Mag, .308, ought 6, and .35 Whelen. Add in some .270 and some other stuff for friends. I gotta say that I enjoy it. I find it relaxing. Me and Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and quite a few other Country Stars have loaded Boo Cooh shells. With the added benefits of more trigger time and the pride involved in filling the freezer with your own hand loads, I can’t think of a better way to spend my time and $! Stuff’s sorta Hard to find, and the cost keeps going up, but I plan on doing it till I’m ready for the box. After that, what ever’s left is gonna be Ben’s problem! I figure he’ll carry on the tradition, and hopefully so will his kids. 7mm
