Kansas voters resoundingly decided against removing the right to abortion from the State Constitution, according to The Associated Press, a major victory for the abortion rights movement in one of America’s reliably conservative states. The defeat of the ballot referendum was the most tangible demonstration yet of a political backlash against the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that had protected abortion rights throughout the country. The decisive margin — 59 to 41 percent, with about 95 percent of the votes counted — came as a surprise, and after frenzied campaigns with both sides pouring millions into advertising and knocking on doors throughout a sweltering final campaign stretch. “The voters in Kansas have spoken loud and clear: We will not tolerate extreme bans on abortion,” said Rachel Sweet, the campaign manager for Kansans for Constitutional Freedom, which led the effort to defeat the amendment. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/02/us/kansas-abortion-rights-vote.html

States rights under the Constitution. Evidently the meaning of the constitution and SCOTUS decisions mean nothing to you. The people of the State decided so it none of your fugging business unless you live there.

Hey Goosey, is Trump in jail yet? LOL....
Laws aren't preventative measures. In other words, more laws won't prevent gun crime from happening.

Kansas voters resoundingly decided ... The Supreme Court followed the Constitution which said such matters are to be decided by the states and their people. So Kansas people decided for Kansas.

So who gives a fook? SCOTUS said it was a states right to decide and they decided. This is exactly right and as it should be. However, I do not think abortion is an issue government needs to be involved in at all. It is between the parents and God.

Yep, a State Right and not a Constitutional Right. If Kansas or any other state wants to legalize murder, they are free to do so.

On the bright side, no telling how many piles of Gooschiett will be prevented.

SCOTUS did not ban abortions. Another troll taking up ban width.

SCOTUS did not ban abortions. Another troll taking up ban width. Exactly right. I don't think there's a single media person who understands the significance of the ruling or they are just too busy lying.

SCOTUS did not ban abortions. Another troll taking up ban width. Exactly, the language being used by Dems is misleading on this vote. The SCOTUS never made a ruling on banning anything. Their ruling was based on the fact that the Federal Government has no business in the abortion arena based on the U.S. Constitution and simply took it out of Federal control and passed it to the states for voting. The Kansas vote is so overblown as the ballot measure was to place a ban or no ban, the no ban won. That is hardly an endorsement of things to come. The current legislation in Kansas allows 22 weeks. This vote does not eliminate the State House from lessening that period to 15 weeks or whatever as opposed to the current 22 weeks.

Not entirely correct they weren’t voting on a ban per se, they were voting on a State Constitution change. Kansas voters resoundingly decided against removing the right to abortion from the State Constitution. So under this it means the right is still there but that it can be restricted. Ahh we hear that from the Dems all the time on the 2nd.

A “NO” vote would keep the Bill of Rights in the Kansas Constitution as is, affirming the legal precedent established in Hodes & Nauser v. Schmidt (2019) that a woman has a natural and fundamental right to continue or to end a pregnancy. The Kansas Supreme Court ruled that this is not an absolute right and can be limited by legislative action if there is a compelling state interest and if the law is narrowly tailored to promote that interest.
A ”YES” vote would amend the Kansas Constitution to state that there is no right in the Kansas constitution to abortion nor requirement that there be government funding for abortion. The state legislature would have the authority to pass laws regarding abortion including, but not limited to, instances where the pregnancy is a result of rape, incest, or necessary to protect the life of the mother. Such laws could not be challenged as being “non-constitutional.”
Still don’t see where an outright ban was on the table. Another blown out of proportion claim.
