Getting the reloading room straightened out last night, I came across two bricks of Remington primers I've had for many years and never used. These I refer to as "Janet Reno" primers, I bought 40,000 during the big primer scare generated by that woman.
It's been so long now, I can't remember exactly what it was she was trying to do that caused all of us to run out and buy up all the primers in the country.
Do any of you geezers recall that situation? What was she trying to do?

Reno was a disaster. She manufactured the deaths of all those people at Waco. She and Clinton were working on a major gun grab that never got done. I don't remember the details other than they called it a fix for the gun show loophole.

Wasn't it the Lead Azide ? I think they thought that it was too pollutant and wanted to shut down ranges because of the fear that people would breathe the lead fumes and instantly want to change their sex and vote for Joe Biden.

That was the era of the expiring primer myth, short shelf life. Plus primers were cheap and you can’t reload without them so stock up.

There's supposed to be a new primer factory in Texas. Anyone know when it goes into production?

Place your talking about is near Hooks, Tx., but I dont know when it will start production. I dont know for a fact, but its probably part of the old army ammunition plant up there.

For a short while in the late 90's or early 2000's, Remington wasn't selling any of their reloading components. Don't know what they were thinking with that move, but it was short lived.

The Janet Reno scare was over a supposedly upcoming executive order that would require ammo and component manufacturers to make limited shelf life products. Basically, ammo or primers was supposed to become inert if not used up quickly after it was manufactured. Panic buying and hoarding of "old style" long life components was the result.

I remember Minuteman Ammonium Nitrate was tough to get.

Nobody wanted these except the benchrest shooters. I found several thousand of them at Bud's old location in Paris, KY and bought them all for $13 a thousand. I still have a few.

Yeah, IIRC it was ‘91 or ‘92. Everybody was buying them up like crazy. That’s what taught me to hoard a little bit. Later on, I believe 2012, .22LRs became damn scarce. Both taught me a lesson, if you enjoy shooting, try to stay a little ahead of the game. Right now on hand I got probably 1500 large rifle primers, close to 2000 small rifle primers, and enough .22LR to choke a horse. Not to mention powder. It’s been hard to find, so when I find it, I buy it. Bullets that I use, ditto. I figure I’m very moderately well armed by Campfire standards. When I buy the farm, Penny and Ben can fight over what’s left! 7mm
